That does look painful!Much more worse then mine was.

I hope you heal up fast!

I too have the same problem in my household.Lacy is such a food agressive(with the other dogs)Her and Molly fight all the time and i used to step in.I did not want to see any of the hurt,Molly grabbed a hold of my hand one time just enought to leave a mark.It was my fault i jumped in and tried to stop the fight.

I had to take Molly into the vet her ear was ripped open and she needed stiches as well as Lacy.

The vet said to me never to jump in let them fight it out.I still find it impossible to do.My husband has war wounds from this too.

But as you i do not think any less of my dogs,It would be different if they walked up to me and bit me for no reason,But i have just caught them off guard.

Take it easy and stay off that leg as much as possible!

Anna I am so sorry. I know how much that must hurt and your heart hurts too because your Bon was responsible (indirectly). All I can think of is that the positive thing that came out of this was to learn that they need to be separated in the future at feeding time. This same thing could have occurred while your petsitter was watching them and you would have felt twice as bad had she been hurt. See, there is a silver lining to every cloud I guess.

Years ago I had a different standard poodle (Whitney) and miniature poodle (Ashley). They would eat at different speeds and when Whitney finished early once she went close to Ashley's bowl and got a nice growl. I separated them for feedings after that. When it comes to food, sometimes their common sense goes out the window. ((((Hugs)))) to you and I hope your leg heals quickly.

    Whoa!

That bite is impressive, for sure. Gosh, I know that bite was painful. I have heard of dogs doing just what yours did, many, many times.... but never got to see the results. It is shocking.

Bon might be happier in a home by himself.

That is some bite. Much more serious than I would want to happen to me again or to have happen to a neighbor's child or one of my other pets. I know you don't want to consider this, but surely re-homing him has come to your thoughts? Yes?

I hope your wound heals quickly and smoothly.

I know you will do the right thing with your Bon Bon boy.....and whatever works for you, works for us, I am sure.

    Get well soon.

OMG! I've never seen a dog bite before but that must really be more than the average, of course Bon is more than the average size dog. WOW! I'm so sorry. I sure hope you feel better soon.

Being from the South I just have to say, Bless your heart!

Oh Anna, that looks like a serious bite! I'm so sorry you had to experience that. I know you love Bon and he probably didn't even know it was you he bit, he just wanted that grub!

I think it's a good idea to separate them for dinner, and also let him know that you're the boss!

Take it easy and heal well!!

    (((hugs)))

Though i don't agree with the opinion of rehoming in this situation I don't feel that sasvermont should have been attacked for their opinion, nor for the timing of the suggestion.

Please, if your dog is arthritic look into getting it Elk Velvet Antler. Look up my posts on it, PM me, or look it up on a search engine; but please if you love your dog and want it to live many more years consider this option. I've seen so many posts on here about dogs needlessly suffering. I can't make a new post about EVA every time so this plea is going here. EVA also helps with other ailments such as anemia.

I have to say I was very surprised by the way some people jumped on sas, a well respected and long term member of Pet Talk. Everything she wrote was in concern for Anna, and definitely not written in a judgmental way. She was just giving her opinion in a loving way. I think her last post made that clear.

I, personally, would not want to have a dog around my home that could do that kind of damage to a human or to another pet. It's like owning a loaded gun. Some people can handle that. I could not. My opinion - doesn't make me right or wrong. She may find that Bon will never bite again. I hope that is true for her. I trust that is true for her. I support her in her decision.
That's it. You can read in to this what you like.
    Get well soon Anna.

Oh my Anna, I am sorry you got hurt. But, and I say but, b/c it didn't happen to me, but at least it wasn't your face or anything worse. At least you know now that even though he is your furkid, he is a dog and he is capable of something like this, to enable you to be more cautious in the future, and to make different feeding arrangements if need be. Had this incident never happened and it might have been worse on a different occasion...sometimes we need something like this to happen to forewarn us, i guess I am certainly not trying to make light of it...it is definately a sad thing all around that it happened.

And it's hard to know how to react to Bon too, he is your dog and you love him, and know that he has instincts, but at the same time, just like with skin kids, when they do something out of the ordinary, all sorts of emotions arise...sadness, anger, disbelief...Bon is still young and he has learning to do. I remember my Swissie breeder telling me that giant breed dogs could benefit from going thru obedience school more than once, maybe that would be beneficial for him, and maybe make your mom feel better.... I understand that he isn't aggressive normally, just around food, but being a giant breed, maybe it couldn't hurt. I am certainly not trying to tell you what to do, I just feel for you. Dale was mouthy sometimes...never broke the skin, but it would frustrate me at times. We know you love your Bon boy and glad that you were able to come to us to tell us about it (it gives us all a reality check too, that as you said dogs are dogs and have instincts), we all understand, some have been there too. Anyway, hopefully you are feeling better soon!! (hugs)

    OUCHIE!!!!

The only reason I do not feed raw to my girls is because I know they would fight over it.. Its just animal instinct, when meat is involved...I would either feed Bon in a different area of the house, or his crate.. Or I would take them off of raw..
Your bite looks awefull.. My mom and I both got inbetween a fight with Tikeya an Baby, and it resulted in both of us getting bitten as well.. My mom got bitten on her arm, and it was alot like yours, the biggest cut had fatty matter coming out of it as well.. Scary stuff.. (I know about how you felt being embarrassed at the hospital). We were sooo weary about telling people it was our own dogs that bit us..

I 100% DISagree with this statement - education is key. And Anna is way more educated on raw feeding than I am.
you may have a point but food is food. I think this would have happened even if it would have been kibble. Diana has to feed her 5 dogs in crates for the same principle. The benefits of seeing my dog go from a dog that could barely jump in the car - to running and chasing balls all over the yard and her health thriving - vs. the dull skin and itchy coat she had on kibble make me glad that she is not on kibble any more.
Anna knows that this could have happened regardless what she was feeding her crew, when you have more than one dog you will run food agression issues.
