    LH, what makes you think you have the one unasailable, true answer to
    the reasons behind the crusades? Many learned scholars have studied this

    The Crusades had much more to do with economic issues (What in heck do we do with young nobles who cannot inherit anything, for one) than religion. Most serious studies of the Crusades focus on the economic reasons for the wars as opposed to the religious reasons, which are hard to separate because of the amount of control the Catholic church had on the European economy.
