    1. Look pathetic as long as possible. The humans are suckers for that big-eyed stare and downturned mouth. Even better if you can wrinkle your forehead a bit too.

    2. Don't let them catch you eating your kibble enthusiastically too soon. If they feel sorry for you, they will give you all sorts of tender goodies that are usually off limits.

    3. Enjoy being in the limelight for a while, after all, we seniors aren't going to be around forever and this is a little reminder to your people.

    4. Happy dances are allowed!

All in all, it wasn't so bad getting dental work done after all. And I can still chew anythig I want to.

    Wooos to you,

    Star

I love this. I can just hear them saying this. Hobo - you're in my prayers. I hate teeth pain myself - and doggies tolerate so much more. I'm routing for you. We all love you here at PT even though we've never met you. Sending kisses and hugs.

Mommy - by the way, did you do a geriatric screening before scheduling the surgery? I started doing screenings when my dogs reached 9 years and older. It's a safer way of making sure the seniors are "okay" enough for surgery.

Did Hobo get his teefies out today?
(Maybe I'm asking too early, it's after 7 pm here, not sure of the time difference)

It's just after four here. I can't pick them up til 5. I called at 2:00 and they were just finishing Hobo's surgery. Vet said "so far so good". Pacer had to go in today too, an unscheduled emergency drop-off. He is apparently awake and doing well too. I don't even want to think about what the bill for today is going to be!

I hope his mouth doesn't hurt too much while it's getting well. I had meant to remember to ask about him today so I'm glad someone did. We'll be watching for an update and maybe pics? Give him some lovin' from us, ok?

Pacer got a puncture wound above his eye on Thursday night. He came between Pingo and her tennis balls. Her hips were bugging her that night and she was a little testy. I don't think she meant to bite Pacer. She meant to run him away from her treasures. Pingo isn't a fighter and it went no farther than one lunge. I think she connected by accident!

I called the after hours line and talked to the doc. It looked like a pretty basic puncture so we decided not to bring him in. They won't suture a puncture anyway. Rick gave me some antibiotics without seeing Pacer, which they don't usually do, but since I'm there so much, he did anyway! Over the weekend, the wound started to look worse instead of better. It looked infected to me, despite the antibiotics. So I left Pacer at the clinic and told them to clip, clean, suture--whatever they had to do so the infection doesn't get any closer to his eye.

I never considered it, until I got all these guys. But such classes aren't available up here and I could never afford this pack on what a vet tech makes. They are grossly underpaid! I have occasionally stayed and acted as a tech--usually for an after hours call!

The boys are home. Hobo is essentially his usual self. A little calmer, but that's it. He lost five teeth--the three big molars on his upper left jaw, one on the right and one of the smaller teeth on the right. He ate a bit of canned food for dinner without any trouble. He does love his food! He wants to go outside and play but he's not real stable on his feet right now.

Pacer looks like h#ll! Stuart says he looks like a gargoyle. Some of the tissue underneath the original puncture had died. So they had to open his face up a bit and take out the dead tissue. They stitched that up, but left the bottom open so the infection and other assorted disgusting things could drain out. Blood on a white dog is even more awful looking than it is on a darker dog! I have to flush Pacer's wound twice a day and blot up the discharge regularly. It's disgusting. He has to wear an ecollar for a week or so. The bite-not collar doesn't keep him from pawing his face so he can't wear that!

Pooooor Pacer! Hopefully all of it will heal up quickly now. Yuck, I don't envy you, it sounds awful.
I'm glad Hobo is his happy self, I love that little guy! Hugs & skritches to both of them.

Awww, Pacer. Poor baby. You know, if you wanted tennis balls sweetie, all you had to do was ask. Now, if you want some tennis balls of your own I'd be happy to send you some so you leave Miss Pingo and her tennis balls alone. I do hope your sweet doggie face feels better soon.

Hobo, glad to hear you're doing so well. Remember, you need to milk the recovery some though buddy.

Oh, wow, poor Pacer. That sounds horrible. I imagine Pingo feels terribly. I'm sorry it turned out so nasty (both for Pacer and for you!).

You mentioned vet techs are underpaid...I forget what you and Stuart do for a living, care to share? (I know I've asked before, but I forget!)

Goodness...Don't know how I've missed all of this but I'm sending big hugs to all!!

Glad to hear everyone is home and doing fine now

    Tamara just a question...
Do huskies normally have a lot of problems with their teeth? Just wondering if this is something I'm going to look forward to as Roxey gets older.
