In a divorce proceeding, at least here in Ohio, one does not get more money, nor necessarily custody, because they were abused.
Spousal and child support is a straight calculation based on earnings.
Custody is that which is in the best interest of the child, not whether a parent abused another parent, though that could be an indicator of NOT placing the child with the abusive party.
Lots of women use that excuse because it is true, often. Abuse takes many forms, and people, while married, go to extremes to hide it. Some people are genuinely afraid for their safety, and do not make such claims of abuse until they are safely established outside the marriage.
Sure, some people cry wolf. But, the secret lives of the abused and their abusers is just that, secret.
