-The smallest of Canada's three Northern Territories. Total population about 30,000, 70% of those people live in Whitehorse. There are twice as many moose in the Territory as there are people and more than three times as many dogs.

-The Yukon River is North America's third biggest river at 2200 miles long. It is only fully open to navigation 3 months a year. It is the longest, least developed river in the world. The word Yukon means Great River.

-The Alaska Highway was built in 1942 by the US military, thinking that they would need to defend and use Alaska for defense in WW2. Construction continues on the highway every summer!

During the gold rush in 1896, the population soared to over 40, 000 people. This is Bonanza Creek, site of the first gold discovery that sparked the Klondike Gold Rush.
