I believe they were real calls. About twelve years ago, the place where I work decided that everyone needed a computer at their desk and some went to people who had never used one before. A systems tech told me that he'd seen a few people pick up the mouse and run it over the screen, believing that the mouse itself had to be over an icon in order to be selected.
