Lol! Sounds like Charlie was letting the cat know what his opinion was about not wanting to play. "Well, if you don't want to play with me, take that!"

I don't know if that's the real reason for the behavior, but we like to give human interpretations to pet behaviors, and this one certainly sounds like pure spite.
