LOL, it's probably due to the fact that exotic parrots are just that - incredibly exotic! Naturally, people think they need special requirements, but it really isn't much more difficult than taking care of a dog. Of course, you can't keep a dog chained outside the house 24/7. In the same sense, you can't keep a bird caged in 24/7 (which, unfortunately, is the life MANY MANY birds live). Just like dogs, birds thrive on a diet filled with fresh, wholesome foods, too. They NEED fresh fruits and veggies, but doesn't every animal? =P I'm not sure about Amazons, but 'Toos and 'Tiels love freshly plucked twigs, which provide them with hours of self-entertainment. The only thing that may be a bit difficult to cater to is their diet. Some species require specific types of nuts and fruits (macaws need a high-fatty diet so brazilian nuts and macadamia nuts are popular add-ins), but Amazons are relatively easy to take care of.
If you get one, please please post pictures!!! I LOVE amazons. I was thinking about adding either a Patagonian conure or blue-fronted amazon in the near future.![]()
