Poor little Noah - I hope he's OK
My Siamese Mini had a minor heart murmur when we took him in last Christmas. Within a month he had been upgraded to category five, which is the worst. We went through the same thing you are experiencing now.
The x-rays didn't tell us much, except his heart was two-thirds larger than normal and there was blood in his lungs, so we got an ultrasound. It was then diagnosed as PDA (patent ductus arteriosis, excuse the spelling), which is when one of the valves in the heart doesn't close off after birth (it can happen in humans and dogs as well). We were very lucky in that the condition is operable and we got him just in time.
As for your baby, it's great that you're getting the ultrasound to gain a definite prognosis. It may be cardiomyopathy as other members have experienced with their cats, or it could be something else. The ultrasound can determine the condition and severity, and hopefully provide a plan for providing Noah with a long and happy life.
Best wishes, Nicole
