I use Tidy Cat Clumping litter. I was using a store brand, but I switched to a brand I could find almost anywhere. The cats do fine with it, so I will leave "well enough alone".

I was on the quest for the perfect cat litter also.
I tried EVERTHING!! I really like the OdorLockers and the Worlds' Best was good too. But one day I was almost outta litter and had to buy the cheap stuff. Cat's Pride is what I bought it was on sale 2 - 40# bags for $6. It really took care of the odor! It was large 'grained'. And Kylie covered her poo which she hadn't been doing. So I have been buying Tidy Cat.
I did use the crystal litter but didn't like it as well as I thought I would.
I really didn't like the clumping litter the more I used it. But if you prefer the clumping litter, Arm and Hammer Super clumping or scooping in the blue box worked really well. The clumps were really hard for easier pickup.
Some time had passed since I last changed Kylie's box well she went in there last night and it smell really really really bad! Since it was 3am I didn't feel like lugging everything around so I just poured almost a whole box of baking soda on it and shook it around then changed it this morning. It really helped with the odor. I also use Arm and Hammer litter deoderizor.

Yes, I think the Arm & Hammer litter deoderizer is
great. I don't sprinkle it on top but put it in the bottom
of the box before adding new litter. Yesterday I bought
a big bag of Tidy Cat AGAIN, but I'll look around more the
next time I shop. Red, Mikey,Blackie & Punkin say Thanks.

I use Walmart's store brand. It's a lot like Tidy Cat. It does have some dust but not bad. I never buy the fine scoopable stuff because I tried it once, got a grain of it in my eye and got an eye infection. I was even wearing glasses. I use baking soda on the botton of the litter box and put the litter on top. That way, they don't get as much baking soda on their feet. I don't know how good it is for them.

I usually don't use that much baking soda or deoderizor but it really really stunk! I usually mix it around in the litter also.

I use Pet Supplies Plus brand "Premium Scoopable Clumping Cat Litter" which is $7.13 for a 40 lb bag. It's 99% dust free and clumps just as well as the name brands.

I did try "Feline Pine" and "Love My Kitty" brands. Those brands are pellets of saw dust. The only thing you really have to do is remove the solid waste from it every day. Once the pelletts turn to sawdust and you can begin to smell the odor you simply dump the whole litterbox and start over again.

I guess it's up to the individual cat owner and their pets as to what they prefer.

    Good luck.
