Addie, Cass is right about Monkies. I own a Capuchin and he is far from being domesticated. When we lived in the boonies, he ran free, friends who came to visit were always warned to NOT try and pick Mario up.Why? Because he would bite them of course. Well our house burn down a few months ago and we had to move to a small trailer just across the field from where we lived before. We had to figure out a way to capture Mario so that we could bring him with us! Get this, Mario is very friendly and will let you pet him, love on him, but he will not let you just pick him up! Anyway, Mario left the land he had lived on for so long. We thought we had lost him for good. Then we started gettting reports of Monkey sitings, he was headed toward town! Well we knew we were going to have to catch this guy, and that meant hands on! Yikes! I warned the family that one of us was probably going to get bit! Yes as much as Mario loved us he would bite us, as much as he wanted to come home to us, yes he would bite us..
It took several attempts to catch him, but one morning very early, my husband and I went and found him next to the highway. He was very thirsty and very happy to see us. I gave him a drink of gatorade, and he drank it, and I done what I knew I had to do, or perhaps chance never seeing him again. I jumped on Mario! Big mistake, big, big mistake! I tried to grab him by the back of the neck but my aim was not quite right. My thumb went right in his MOUTH! Yeap, felt like I stuck my thumb in a saw blade. Just as well to. My husband grabbed him by the back of the neck and the tail (thank god for that tail) and put him into a small pet carrier. We brought him home, put him inside the house and went to the hospital. From then on, doctors, hospitals, surgeries on my thumb, right thumb at that. Still don't have much feeling in that old thumb.
Mario, open the carrrier himself, so we had to recapture him in the house, and he is now living in his cage. He cannot run loose here, because where we are right now there is a neighbor across the street with children.
Mario is back to being his sweet loving self, loves to have his back scratched, being kissed, eating out your hand, but nobody dares try and hold him, all they have to do is look at my thumb! Lesson learned!
