Regardless of whether they're endangered or make good pets, animals that are native to your area are illegal to own as pets unless you obtain a license and pay a fee. Even pets as common as Red Eared Sliders are, yes, illegal in MY area in Missouri because they are native to the lakes and rivers!

So that having been said, I've heard they don't make very good pets at all. Even if they did sell some as pets (and I'm sure they do somewhere, if not legally than illegally) then they won't be near as domesticated as you would want for them to be and you could quite possibly end up getting yourself hurt.
