I'm one of several WW members here. I recently celebrated a total loss of 40 pounds, and am hoping to earn my 45 pound star this coming week.

A point roughly corresponds to 50 calories. An item with a lot of fat (~9 grams) gets an extra point, although fiber reduces the point count. (I'm so sleepy I'm making this more complicated than it really is. There is a slider chart thing that you'll get at the first meeting that makes this simple...)

The biggest changes for me are adding fruits and vegetables to my life. I'm eating healthier and more adventurously now. Yes, there is portion control, and exercise, and LOTS of water. But the support system is terrific. I think you and your mom will love it.
