I have a Canon PowerShot A80. I believe it cost me around $300, but that was when it first came out. There are older models you may be able to find that are in the same series of mine (A60 was my old one)

I love Canons and don't plan on getting anything different than a Canon for a while. They're very user friendly and what I like most of all, with Windows XP all you have to have is a USB cord to upload them.
