I do not breed cats nor do I believe in breeding whilst so many cats are put to sleep in our shelters every year. All eight of my rescue cats and two ex-feral fosters are moggies. I would not swap any of them for a grand champion of any pure breed.
However there are very valid reasons for ONLY breeding pure bred pedigree cats. Prevention of deformed sick kittens and possible death of the mother cat being the easiest to explain.
Also cats bred by back yard breeders, often end up in poor homes and contribute highly to the cat population problem, which I affects people like me who end up having to rescue these cats and their offspring from the streets.
A responsible breeder will take back any cat bred by one of her cats for any reason and will rehome as appropriate and though this does not prevent pure breeds in shelters, it cuts the chances considerably.
If someone wants to breed their cat, we cannot stop them, however we educate them with the basic steps to become a responsible breeder rather than a back yard breeder. So they only breed a small numbers of healthly and desirable kittens.
For those who have no idea about the difference between a backyard breeder and a responsible breeder here is a basic outline I have written for my ‘whyneuter’ site.

Cosmicat,
I do not care if you like me or not, I post on this forum with the aim of helping other people and their cats with the limited knowledge I have. Being rude to me is simply a poor reflection of your character.
I do not accept critism from those who fail to contribute to the solution.
I post to help people. You post to insult people.
Who in the end will make a difference ?
