Call your vets office and ask them for the name of the nearest wildlife preservation office or something similar. There are groups out there who take in injured wildlife from birds to squirrels to whatever. I simply cannot remember the name of our statewide group right now. But my point is that perhaps your vet can direct you to someone who will know what to feed the bird. They will be delighted that they don't need to take it in, just give you direction on feeding and caring for it.

I can remember giving canned dog food in small amounts to little birds we handraised when I was a child and bits of boiled egg. Make sure the bird has access to clean water too (of course you already know that ). Let us know what happens.
