Oh poor Bassett. Prayers of course are going your way. The paralegal in me sees that there was negligence by the vet in not checking on the heating pad and they should assume at least part of the responsibility for the result; i.e., paying for at least part of the treatment. Providing you with the necessary bandages is the least s/he could do. I wouldn't hurt to ask -- the worst thing they can say is no, but I bet they'd be willing to compromise.
