Sugar arrived here at age 9.5 years, blind with age related cataracts, and with scabs, she was still healing from the attack of the Bull Mastiff, which picked her up by the head and shook her. She was in a coma for 72 hours, almost lost her left eye. Had a drainage tube in her head for 7 to 10 days.

That all happened in her first foster home; she was moved to another foster home (the other lady has been dropped as a foster parent; she went to the shelter and brought home this mastiff as an adult rescue. With bichons in the house!). They told me all about this before I agreed to adopt her.

She fully recovered from the attack, physically. Mentally, she was terrified any time she heard another dog (remember, the attack happened when she was totally blind, so she never saw it coming!) I'd walk her around my neighbor hood, and if a chihuahua barked one street over, at the post carrier, Sugar was in sheer terror.

Sugar is no longer afraid. Gaining her sight helped; taking some classes helped; and having fearless Lacey arrive 6 months later helped a lot, lol!
