    Older dog eatting feces

Okay...I know that this is a common occurance but my dog is 6 1/2 years old and I have never seen him eat feces before. I have always seen him actually avoid poop in the yard. For some reason this morning he went out front and over to the side of our house out of view, of course I followed and when I came around the corner he stepped into our neighbors yard and sniffed feces and then grabbed it. I told him no, drop it which he did. I have never seen him do this...if he was a girl I would have to call him a Diva because he just thinks poop is gross(obviously not any more). What would cause him to all of a sudden want to eat it? I also think it may have been his poop, as earlier he had also gone to that side of the yard and our neighbor just has a really little dog--poop was way to big to be his If anyone knows what might all of a sudden cause a dog to do this let me know. Thanks.
