I know. But Rob hunts pigs, and I guess his best allies are his dogs. They are born and bred to it.
Pigs are quite a problem around here, they will eat anything, including the young of many endangered marsupial species....so we have to keep the pig numbers down.

Several people on another board I follow use their dogs in boar hunting. They're a great teammate to have on your side, and the pigs can be so dangerous...they're doing a service for the people around them by reducing the numbers of pigs.

There are places where wild boars are a huge problem where gunfire is not allowed. Wild boars do an estimated $800 million in damage per year.

As has been mentioned, wild pigs are SMART. Even a hunter with a gun can be caught off guard. Having a dog whose keen senses can give you better warning of the pig's approach is MUCH safer for the people involved.

According to this article, Impact of Invasive Animals in Australia in 2004 estimated the cost of feral pig damage to be around $110 million per year to Australian farmers.

I think I'd better go pig hunting with Rob and his dogs
