What great photos of Max.. especially the ultra-close-up of his sweet little speckled nosie! Larger than life!

I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

Slick, I'm so sorry to hear this disheartening news about Max. I knew something was calling me back to PT.....
I can't offer any advice that hasn't already been given. Both Tubby & Peanut tolerated the fluids relatively well and didn't fight...except once when Tubby started feeling better and the needle came out and fluids spurted all over the place. Not funny at the time, but it brings a smile to my face as I remember.
All I can do now is offer {{{hugs}}} to you and Max. Prayers and positive thoughts are on their way, and will continue as long as necessary.

Adorable beautiful boy is what he is.Lovely pictures, thanks slick.
Prayers & good thoughts continuing, for you both. {{hugs}}
Thank you all for your prayers and hugs. They are much appreciated. There have been times when the needle is hard to insert and sometimes I just let it go and try again the next night. I poke in a differnt spot each time.
Debbie.....how nice to see you on line again. I think of you often.....LOL, the needle coming out has happened to me also. Yes, it's awful at the time but now I laugh about it.
I must admit that tonight Max seems to be almost back to normal. His input and output are good and he is more alert and talking. Then again, that could be because our outside temp has cooled off significantly. Makes for comfortable sleeping again. Doesn't matter to me...I'm taking it as a good sign.
That sad part is that he's just a carcass with fur....skin, bones and fur. It's so hard to watch.![]()

I'm so pleased that Max seems to be feeling a bit better. And I'm glad for your sake too that the temperature is down a bit. Still sending oodles of healthy vibes to you and furry Max. I think of you often.
It's good to hear Max is feeling better. I am sure the temperature is part of it- and I hope it gives him a little more appetite. If he is feeling fine and eating on his own maybe you can take down the frequency of fluids - maybe twice a week would be enough. This would give him more time to relax in between.

Glad to hear that Max is feeling better....prayers continue...
Is there any high-calorie food that Max could safely eat for a bit to get his weight up somewhat? I know it can't be high protein...but maybe your vet has an idea or two.
{{{{hugs}}}} to precious Sir Max. I still have that sample of "wool" you sent me several years ago.![]()

It is, and I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. It's something we all know we have to face someday, but we all hope that someday never really comes.
Another sign to watch for.....usually cats with kidney failure end up with high blood pressure, which can eventually make them go blind. I think this is what happened to Peanut because she never had cataracts or anything like that. It was jus tall of a sudden one day she couldn't see. That, and how it changed her behavior, was the deciding factor for us in her case. Her quality of life was fine before that - she was still enjoying herself - but after she went blind she would just sit, seemingly afraid to move.
Glad to hear Max has perked up. Doesn't matter if it's the weather or the fluids or the food or why ever. The point is he has perked up and enjoying life as usual, which makes it all worth it. Give him extra gentle hugs for me tonight, and more {{{hugs}}} sent to you.

Debbie: Many thanks for that info. I'd forgotten about that. (((hugs)))
Last night's treatment was not good. The minute my neighbour enters the door, he runs and hides. He didn't fight that much but my poor boy...as soon as I put him on the counter, he started drooling profusely. Then as the flow started, he pooped right on the spot.![]()
This is stressing him out so much so that I'm thinking of not continuing. Does that make my a bad meowmie????

Not even a little bit. My Pidge is supposed to be only daily subQ's but she gets diarrhea each time and the stress for her is awful. She refuses to sit down and to administer the treatment while she's standing and constantly trying to jump down is beyond difficult. She's 21 years old w/cardiomyopathy and I have to shove meds down her throat every day in addition to the subQ's. She's had it. She doesn't want to be bothered at all so unless I see that she becomes severely dehydrated, I've discontinued the subQ's. It's been several weeks since she's had one and she's holding her own. As Grace said, quality of life has to be considered. (((HUGS)))![]()

Slick, this is the real hard part now. And Grace summed it up, the quality of life is what matters. " I cannot make you better, you are not going to get better, but I PROMISE you no pain, a good quality of life, and maintaining your dignity." And I have never regretted those words that I spoke to Boo. I know that I did the very best for her, and for all the Clan Angels.
Slick, I'm so sorry the treatment doesn't seem to be working for Max.
We all know you are wonderful and will do the best thing for your fluffy boy.![]()
Slick you are a GOOD meowmie. Is there an option that you can take him to a vet for fluids. We do that with Filou as you know and it separates the bad fluids for him from normal life. Wishing you all the best for whatever decision you take.
