"special" Lizzie

I loved the thread that Jazzcat started about our special, quirky kitties

Robbie and Lizzie still like to "suckle" on the edge of their fleece bed before they sleep - what Lizzie does is suckle for awhile and then she picks her head up and "suckles" the air!! Her eyes are open but not really focusing and she does this for quite awhile. We don't know exactly what she is doing...but think it makes her even more unique and special.

THOSE EYES! (THUNK...hits the floor!) I couldn't imagine having those wonderful, beautiful eyes of hers to look at every day, much less the cute was she suckles to go to sleep. I am so glad you kept Lizzy and Robbie in our PT family.. I would have hated having to miss seeing them grwo up.

These pictures are darling, and reminded me of something cats do, called "flemming" - using their Jakobsen's organ, or "vomer-nasal organ," located behind their upper front teeth - a little button of a thing you can see if your cat lets you have a peek. Most vertebrates have this extra sense, which we humans don't have - but if you have noticed your cat looking a bit like she/he is about to sneeze, and looking abstracted, while investigating an interesting animal or sometimes human scent, the cat is probably flemming.
