Over the weekend, Scruffy began to falter. He had trouble getting off the ground with his only back leg. His vision was nearly gone. His bark became a squack. By Monday, he couldn't stand long enough to pee. Efforts to help him with a sling were frustrating both to him and to me. We helped him to the Bridge at 11AM Monday morning.
Scruffy lived a good life for 17 1/2 years. Even with cataracts, poor hearing and the loss of his back leg, he was a happy, funny dog. He was very accepting of all of the cats and new dogs that became his housemates, never growling at any of them. He will be missed.

He looked like a very sweet boy and must have been a joy to have around.
As you say, he has had a good and long life and I hope that is a comfort to you.
