I have a call into the vet but will ask you guys too...

Sunny went into heat 2 weeks ago. Up until yesterday, she was still bleeding although it had certainly slowed down. We thought she was done as of yesterday. She has been having more frequent urination the past 24 hours and actually woke us up at 3am to go out (first time ever). This morning, I took her for her walk and she marked her usual 5-6 times. Then she did 2 more and they were both pure blood. I am concerned she may have an infection or is this normal? As I said, I have a call into the vet but was wondering what you guys think...

    Thanks.

Could be a urinary tract infection. My RB Mandy used to get one every time she came in heat. All you should need is urine sample and they can tell you.

Glad to hear that you already have an appt. at the vet.

As far as opinion I'd be guessing: UTI, bladder infection, or stones. If you can get a urine sample for your vet appt. I would HIGHLY recommend you take one. It will make it much easier for them to narrow down what's wrong and how to treat it. Not to mention that in *may* save you some money in doing more extensive tests or meds that aren't as effective that might have been found out from a urine sample.

Hope things go ok. Keep us posted on what the vet finds.

Thanks Chocolatepuppy and Catlady ...My vet called me back and said it could be normal or she could have a UTI. She didn't ask for a sample or to see Sunny. She put her on Keflex, 500 mg twice a day for 10 days. I'm just now seeing your responses. I will definitely try to get a sample and bring it and her in if it persists. When I first take her out, her urine is yellow. It's the later squats that look bloody. Her appetite is booming and she seems normal otherwise.

Here is a video of her playing with Bean. I think she's just too darn cute. Thanks again for the advice; I'll keep you updated.

    Hi Deb,
I saw this earlier but didn't post as I have no knowledge in this area. I'm glad you got some info, and that the vet has been in touch.

That video is great! Sunny just doesn't quit, does she? Bean must be so tired of her lol.

Sunny, dear one, I am pleased to see you are STILL keeping mom on her toes, doing things to make mom worry. You really must give mom a break, honey! LOL.

Deb, I think it is about equal to the "terrible twos" in infants, so once you get through the first year . . . IF you get through the first year! . . . you'll be fine. Paws crossed, anyway!

Obviously, Bean is a cat in charge. All business. I love that stern face. They are both adorable. I hope that Sunny is okay and feeling better soon.

    I've been Boo'd...
    Thanks Barry!
