Do you know your blood group...

I started this thread out of curiosity and because my daughter Melissa decided as she just turned 16 to become a blood donor.

She donated blood yesterday at her school,it was an ok experience, she did feel kinda sick during it and pins and needles in her arm, i wonder if that is normal, i do know some people feel faint, however it has not put her off doing it again, they did not tell her what her blood group was though, pity, as i don't know, next time in three months should she decide to donate she gets a free key ring with her blood type on it.

I found something interesting out though, I have the second rarest blood group, only 2 percent people have my type, i am B NEGATIVE, so wondering do you know your's ?i can tell you what percent you are,as i have all the information from the blood centre in front of me.these statistics could be just for NZ though, not sure.

well.... I´m never gonna be donor less (I hope I never need one) but as I have AB positive... I could get A,B and O..... and those who have O can give to A, B and O..

A´s can only give to A´s, B´s to B´s, but can get from O´s

at secondary school we did this lab proyect where they used a lancet and pinch you on the tip of the finger and with some reactives they should let you know what blood type you are... I did it but I already knew because since I was little they told my mom...

I have no clue what my kid is as he has never had blood taken... but I also don´t wanna put him through the needle and blood taking thing yet....

we should make this a poll kinda thing.. to see how is PT´s blood percentages.. just a thought

I would love to know how blood tyoes work on genetics... my mom is B negative and my dad is A positive... I´m AB positive, my sis is (forgot if A or B) but positive and my bro is O negative...

I'm terrified of needles so I don't give blood (even to the doctors without a screaming fit worthy of a 2 year old) so I'm not 100% positive on my blood type.

However if a high school experiment is worth anything, that said I was a B+ but I wouldn't count on a class assignment if I needed blood for anything.

I just rang the blood donor centre and found out Melissa is B+ same as my sister, they did not even have her details like ph number or home address, you would think they would have made sure they did that at the school eh?

I am not too fond of needles either, but would give blood, but my iron count is a bit low at the moment.

I would not go by the school experiment either, we did one and i was supposed to be an O, well that was way out wasn't it? wasn't until i had melissa i found out my blood type.

A+. I used to donate as my Blood Bank Dues, but here anyway (don't know about other locations) you can't weigh less than 110 lbs. When I had to donate my own blood for my own use for surgery, they would only take a half pint because of my weight.

My blood type is O Positive. I have been a blood donor since highschool, and it realy is a great thing your daughter is doing. Kudos to her! I cant donate as much as I would like to, my iron is too low, so it is hit or miss, whether I can donate or not. usually 1 out of every 8 tries. But I still go.

Carole...your daughter will probably get a donor card in the mail with her blood type on it. That's how it works here.

I have been a regular blood donor for 20 years (it was easier in Illinois where there are blood banks. Here is CA I must wait until I see a blood drive.... I have asked my doctors and other health care professionals and that is how it is done here.)

My blood type is AB negative. That is the universal donor for plasma so I did that for a few years before leaving Chicago (they take the blood out - sort out the plasma and put the rest back in.)

    I have O negative.

My blood type is called the "universal donor" because every person on earth can receive my blood with no problems.

However, the only type of blood I can receive is O negative.

Kind of makes it the "martyr" blood type, doesn't it?

I can't donate blood. I have tried a few times, and I always end up passing out and scaring the living daylights out of the staff. The same thing happens if I have to get blood drawn for a test, or even if I get some shots. It's not a because the process upsets or disturbs me, I'm actually not bothered at all by needles, blood, etc.

The best any doctor has been able to figure out, it has something to do with the fact that I have very low blood pressure, and hypoglycemia.

RH factor is a problem that arises when a woman with negative blood is pregnant with a baby with positive blood. I had this when I was pregnant, and had to get shots before my son was born. I don't know remember the details now, but I think it has something to do with the potential for the mixing of the two blood types at birth. Could be dangerous for the negative typed mother, although not for the positive typed baby, I would imagine.

I donated blood for the first time in early June - I finally got my nerves together and went through with it, because I`ve always hated shots and the like. The girl next to me passed out, which added to my nervousness, but it went well. I did pass out though several hours later, strangely. I`m O positive, though, and I`d like to donate again soon.

I'm not sure of my blood group entirely, I think I'm in group B, but I do know I'm Rh positive. I could never give blood though because my blood pressure is so low I can go into shock if I lose too much blood.

I'm an O+ and have been donating for almost 30 years, between 2 and 4 times a year on average. They like me because I have the Alaska Pipeline running inside my right elbow!

I'm O + too. I can't donate because I have anemia too. When I went through menopause I had to have a blood transfusion. (some women get hot flashes. I bout bled to death)

I am so grateful to who ever donated the two units I got!!! I wouldn't be here today without them.
