    Newborn moose calf (11)

A friend in Anchorage e-mailed me these photos. They were taken in the afternoon while she was on a bike ride around the neighborhood.

The neighbors said that they watched the mama give birth at 5:30 a.m., so this baby is less than 12 hours old. Enjoy!

Those pictures were such a treat to see, Lisa!! I love being able to see things that I will never see "in person". Alaska has beautiful and unique sights!! Thank you for posting. I have learned many things about your state through PT

I take regular bike rides in my neighborhood - now I can wonder if there is anything I see that someone else would be fascinated by - kinda doubt it!! No newborn moose calves to be seen in Ohio

AWWWW....how sweet is that? I can just see the little one getting up on its spindly legs. And the mom nuzzling her baby, that is precious!

How wonderful that the mom can feel so safe in that neighbourhood to give birth in the yard!

Thank you for those lovely photos!

I keep having this feeling that the momma moose is thinking "Why are you all being so darn nosey!" She looks perturbed at the intrusion, lol.

Imagine having a moose give birth in your front yard.... that is just wild!

Debbie ~ Well, Anchorage's motto is "Anchorage, Big Wild Life" for a reason. So, when are you and Dennis gonna come up and see for yourself?

Wow, mom and baby are right by the door to this family's house! Mom must know that is a safe place for her and baby.

How adorable! I just love those legs.

I do wonder how the owners of the house are getting in and out. I know I wouldn't want to confront a mother moose and her newborn. I have a feeling she'd pound anyone that got too close into the ground.

The residents of the house were able to come and go through the garage. Mama was okay as long as no one tried to get between her and her baby.

The photos were taken by a friend while taking a bike ride. She stayed across the street and zoomed in so it appears that she was closer than she really was. Moose will stomp you if you get too close.
