    ice cubes in the summer

its alright to give my dog a bunch of ice cubes when he gets hot right? cuz i was thinking, since my dog zero (akita) seems to get real hot when we play outside, i bring him inside from time to time and feed him lots of icecubes and water...i remember hearing that dogs cool themselves using their tongues, so if there are cold things on their tongues, wouldn't they cool down faster? or am i wrong :P

Ice cubes are fine, I usually give them to my dogs in the summer eventhough they normally just sit and watch them melt

    Yep, icecubes are fine.

When we thought Simba had a heat stroke, the Vet's office told us to put and icecube in his mouth and hold it shut for a minute or so.

my pup Riot, LOVES icecubes!! Everytime I get a drink with ice, he hears it clinging around in my glass and comes RUNNING! lol

Hes perfected catching them in the air now as well.. i'll suck them up and spit them out and he'll jump and catch them lol

I taught him to eat ice cubes as a puppy, I'd put them in his water dish and he'd fish them out and chew on them.
Being a double coated breed, I KNEW he'd need to cool off quick in the summer.
I recently also got him a plastic sided baby pool - hes in that EVERYday whether its hot out or not lol i've ended up having to put clean water in it just about every day now lol

My dogs like ice cubes too.

One time Nacey and I were at my friend's house. My friend gave Nacey an ice cube and then gave her cocker, DJ, an ice cube. Nacey brought her ice cube to me then went and stole DJ's ice cube. It was so cute. It was kind of like she was saying "here Mom, you have one".
