The Copenhagen Gazette, Dec. 30th 2002 Our Scandinavien correspondant has just reported a recent case of a miniblind attack in Copenhagen. The madness has apparently spread, this time as far North as Denmark. The attacker, an orange coloured male known as Mr. F was spotted and caught at the scene of the crime before any serious damage was done. This took place in broad daylight! However, he quicky fled into the darkness of his sleeping quarters and hid under a bed.

In this case Mr. F was very lucky, as he had got his whole head tangled in the string hanging on one side of the blinds and could easily have strangled himself!

In the process of establishing the motivation for Mr. F's behaviour, we presume that it could be a lack of appropriate activities over the Christmas season and due to the arrival of the cold season in Denmark at this time of year, causing a dearth of flies behind the mini blinds. It has also come to our attention that Mr. F has been known to attack fictive objects behind doors, inside cupboards etc.

Investigation has been going on for the last few weeks in the residence where this occurred. The mini blinds have now been taken down and replaced with new ones (no strings attached!) during this last week.

However, the family have come up with some very good advice on this recurring problem – they suggest that people keep the string up very high and make sure there’s a good view of some trees and birds that will take the attackers’ minds off such distubing behaviour.

Although his owners got a severe shock thinking about the consequenses of this, they will rely on the subjects normal good sense to keep him out of any more trouble.

It is at the present time being investigated whether it’s possible to get Spanish blinds in Denmark, which are a lot safer, but the information so far is negative. However, our correspondant in Spain, may be able to provide us with some more info on this.

Koxka, are those blinds the kind that roll up....oohh, how do I describe this....kind of like a garage door, but they roll up in a roll instead of flat like a garage door. Kinda like the steel "shields" businesses in Chicago roll down over their plate glass windows at night so no one throws a brick through the glass.

Anyway, if they are the same thing I'm thinking of, I saw them for the first time when we were in Germany last year. They actually came down on the outside of the house/hotel so the inside didn't need to be messed up with curtain rods or anything like that. The ones at the hotel had a crank to open and close them, and the ones we saw at a friend's house had a string similar to the one on yours (it's attached on the top and bottom, doesn't just hang loose). I really liked them and thought they were a fantastic idea. The only thing I didn't like was at the hotel they were the only way to shut out the light, and it was kinda warm and they also blocked the little breeze that came in, so we had to compromise and only close them part way.

Some of the things you guys have over there are the neatest things, and such great ideas. Unfortunately I think they are all too expensive and last way too long for people over here. Sometimes the US is such a throw away society......

Anyway, I think these would work great for anyone with "blind" problems (notice I didn't say "cat" problems ) because there is no way a cat can push these out of the way. They can definitely be attacked, but the blind would win everytime.

Yes, T&P Mom, these are outside the glass
window and you can roll up and down by a strip by the side ( should take a close pic for you to see how it works). And the windowshell is outside. Notice the cat walkind outside ( Is Paloo who never miss and open window and lurk around)

What is good with these blinds is the combinations are endless:
Open window/ blinds down and viceversa
Closed Window/blins up and viceversa
Mid-open window/ blins up or down at your pleasure / half-down or half-down
etc...

We also have courtains it's more cosy and comfy.Well not that one which is in the kitchen where I was thinking on getting miniblinds for this window and the screened door in the kitchen, but after the "Death to the Mini-blinds" I gave up the idea .

What the good is it insulated you from outside noises, from heat and cold and if you like sleeping in dark they are perfect.

Well the hotels sometimes have funny ideas.

Thanks Koxka, I guess if I'm ever going to build a house I'll need to send to Germany and Spain for a lot things.

And yes, I did notice the flying carpet and was going to comment on how adorable they are! Completely tuckered out.

Apart from the things Koxka mentioned, I like that the string is "built" into the wall and only about 10 or 20 cm long. You pull it out and you pull it either up or down, the bit you let go goes into the wall and don't hang loose. As Koxka says, it's VERY good at keeping noise and light out!

Of course we have them here too but I never use them because they keep the light out and I feel so closed behind them. But Filou was grateful for them when the firework started on New Years eve

Wow, I'm feeling very insular and naive now. I've never heard of these before but want to find out more. Thanks (all of you!) for the info.

Nowadays (uhhh, at night only) I pull my miniblinds and then stick up a cardboard baffle to 1) avoid more cat damage and 2) get privacy from my neighbors due to existing cat damage.

Shhh. Cassy here. I climbied through da miniblind today and sometin goed 'sprong' and it don't close no more. Meowmy said bad words and should get her mouf washied wif soap! I fink the war's still on. P.S. you didn't hear nuffin from me, okay?

Sorry for not responding earlier to this, Amberlee, but I completely missed it. I don't know the name of any of the companies that produce these, but I, personally, have never seen these in the states. Only in Germany - didn't even see them in Switzerland. I would imagine the companies have websites, but I'll have to see if I can get a name for you. They are really heavy duty things, and are more "built in" than any kind of blind we have here. They really are like the roll up metal "doors" that the people in bad parts of town use to protect their pane glass windows - but these look much nicer and have holes to let the air through. I'll do a little research, and maybe contact Terry's collegue in Germany (he has them on his house) to see if I can get some kind of manufacturers name.

Especially since a little bird told me you might be in the market for some new blinds real soon.

It looks as if there is an American company also who has them. I was looking for rolladen which is the German word and found this website.

We have the same type of blinds Randi is talking about ! Years ago , the used to be made of wood , but now , everybody has the plastic ones ! The are so easy ! Outside , so safe for our cats !!!Every morning , Maya is waiting on her favorite window-sell till we roll up the blinds , so she can start birdwatching !!
I will take pics of the sysyem , as it seems to be different from the Danish type .

Hey , no more wars going on with those darn mini-blinds ???
