I've been following this thread for a while. I'm still very unsure about a raw diet, but I'm considering at least trying it. Researching it is a bit overwhelming to me, I'm afraid I won't do it right. It seems there's several different types of raw diets, I don't know what is best.

I'm considering it more for Nebo's enjoyment than anything. His skin/coat are nice (not greasy or dry) and he seems healthy with plenty of energy, clear eyes, ears always clean never infected, and his teeth are clean because I brush them. But he really doesn't *like* dog food, I think he would enjoy eating raw a lot more. I know he would like chewing on raw bones but I don't want him to chip a tooth or wear his teeth down.

I gave him his first raw egg tonight just for curiosities sake. He loved the raw egg but wasn't too interested in the shell, he ate some of it and Sydney did too. He'll probably have diarrhea now (he has a very sensitive stomach). We have some frozen venison I've wondered about giving him (his dog food he currently eats is venison formula the other formulas with chicken, etc gave him diarrhea).

The idea of a premade raw diet is more appealing to me but its not sold locally that I can find and its very expensive to order online. So yeah there really wasn't a point to this post other than looking for information I suppose.

Amy, stop by ALL of your local feed stores, you're bound to find pre-made raw. Talk to managers and check the back room, where the freezer items are sometimes kept. I recommend Farmore or Primal. They're available everywhere in the West, and not nearly as expensive as others (like Natures Variety). Farmore has Beef, Buffalo & Lamb (along with Chicken) if you're worried about it agreeing with Nebo's tummy.

Pre-made is definitely a safe & simple way to make the switch to raw, you can begin formulating a diet on your own and adding RMB's when you feel comfortable. RMB's are ideal, though, because of the process of chewing the meat, fat, and bone. Good luck! I'm sure Nebo would be over-joyed =0)

Heres dinner from last night or the night before (My memory is getting realy bad ).

    Munch, munch.. crunch crunch.

Tinny just before she started choking on her pork, i yanked it out of her throat and she was fine and finished off her dinner.

    Yummy lamb pork and carrot.

I have started my kids on raw chicken. They absolutely love it. They haven't had the runs at all. They are so excited at supper time now. I will introduce them to more raw meats after they eat chicken for a few days.

One of my sons friends used to work at a small grocery store here in town, He knows the butcher real well. He's going to go talk to the butcher about some meat and RMB'S. I'm super excited about that.

Thank you Kay for the beautiful sig!

Cool! I didn't know you were thinking about feeding raw. Glad everything is going well!

Yesterday Mandy never ate, she wasn't hungry. She didn't want to eat when I first put it down but ate a few bites after a minute or two, then walked away. And Buck never ate the pork hocks for dinner because the 3.75 pounds of pork roast he ate yesterday morning gave him gas and I wanted his tummy to settle.

Buck had the pork hocks for breakfast. Mandy is going to eat her pork roast (from yesterday) for dinner. Buck's getting a half a chicken for dinner and Nova and Luka are getting a quarter of a chicken.

Chicken quarter.. (After I posted I realized they were frozen enough to eat) I really wish I had some money today so I could have bought some boneless thighs for Lily. They were regular $7+ but they were on sale from $1.50-$3!

Snowy had her first turkey today and she absolutely loved it

3rd week now and she is doing fine, enjoying everything I've given her: chicken, pork, lamb kidney, beef & chicken liver, eggs and now turkey.

I bought some salmon they other day.. gosh.. raw fish stinks I have frozen it and will give it to her later this week. I'm sticking with chicken, pork and turkey for the moment and will introduce the new meat to her diet this weekend which is beef.

I have not considered giving tripe to Snowy. It's not available at the supermarket so I will have to find a butcher. Does it smell worse than raw fish?

that's quite a sale I do look for bargains too but not much around.
Have you considered introducing other meat/organ Bri or are you sticking with chicken for the time being?

I'm sticking with Chicken until my mom gets financially situated. As soon as possible though, I'm switching Lily back to Raw and adding some pork &/or turkey into Roxy's diet.

Don't buy the tripe from the grocery store - it is bleached for human consumption and has few nutrients left in it. If you want it you're going to have to get it from someone who doesn't have USDA inspected meat. I'm buying from someone who strictly raises animals for dogs and cats fed raw food, so USDA isn't really needed.

I have never fed it but am on a waiting list to get 20lbs. I have heard it stinks to high heaven though. If you can't find it don't worry about it, it's a good add-on to a diet but not imperitive.

Change in plans - Mandy didn't have pork. I gave the pork to Buck, Luka had a half of a chicken, Mandy and Nova had a quarter of a chicken and a few pieces of beef that I was packaging up for tomorrow, and also their daily chicken feet.

I don't buy USDA inspected meat because..... I live in England
But I do understand what you are saying. Thanks Sarah!
In that case I shall give raw tripe a miss.
Snowy gets dried tripe anyway on occassions as a treat.
