I Need To Adopt This Dog!!

    Hi everyone,

As most of you know, I am currently searching for a Labrador Retriever to adopt. I was emailed by a lady that works at a dog rescue in Kelowna. She sent me a link to the Chillwack Animal Controls petfinder page. There is a beautiful black lab named Kody who is due to be PTS any day now. The problem is, I dont have transportation. If I sit around and wait, Kody will be PTS - I know in my heart that I need to adopt this dog, everything about him is identical to what I am looking for in a dog. Please give me some suggestions as to what I can do. I believe Kody only has until this Sunday.

    Here he is...

Kody is a busy fellow. He is good with kids and other dogs. Very friendly guy. He appears to be housetrained as he has not had any accidents in his kennel. Kody is not happy about being at the shelter....he is very squeaky in his kennel. It takes him a bit to calm down once he is out of his kennel, but once he settles down he is just a doll. He sits nicely when asked and will offer a paw for a treat. He LOVES belly rubs and thinks a lap dog is what he should be. He is very snuggly and just a loving, sweet boy. Kody would be a great apartment dog. He is crate-trained, house trained, great in the house, but must be kept indoors or on leash at all times as he can clear a tall fence with ease. He will clear the fence even while you are there playing with him, but beyond that, he is an excellent houseguest, eager to please, and awaiting a chance to polish up his skills and burn off some excess energy with a fun jogging partner.

Perhaps look up another rescue in the area that can house him for a while until you can find someone to transport him to you. Maybe someone can meet you halfway. Do you know anyone in his area?

I would also suggest contacting the rescue where he is currently at and explain your situation. They will probably have some suggestions for you.

Good luck! He is a cutie, and if he is the one for you then it will happen!

I forgot to add that he is in Chilliwack, BC at the Chilliwack Animal Control. I do know someone close to that area, my Grandmother! She currently can't drive because she has glaucoma. My fiance is going to ask some buddies if they can drive him up there to see him. I know if he likes the dog - I will too! I am awaiting an email from the Chilliwack Animal Control. I asked them how long he has left before he is PTS. Prayers that I can save this dog, I cant stop thinking about him.

BTW, Chilliwack Animal Control is by no means a *rescue*. They euthanize any dog that has ever bitten someone. They take dogs out of peoples back yards that are chained - only to bring them to animal control to euthanize IF the owners dont pay the fine. They are so much different than the SPCA or private rescues. Not to forget that they only charge a $50.00 adoption fee, because the bylaw says they have to. If they didnt have to, these dogs would be given away for free. They never used to adopt out dogs, they just killed them.

That's awful The only good side is they're getting the animals out of the horrible conditions they were in.

I just found out that Kody has until Wednesday the 18th to be adopted. He will die sooner if they need more kennels. I posted about my interest in Kody at a forum one of the staff from animal control posts at. Apparently, if they come and do a home check first, it will greatly speed up the process!

    Wish me luck!

I will most likely adopt from the Chilliwack Animal Control, their dogs are on death row! They have 2 weeks to be adopted or fostered or they are euthanized.

    Labs

I have two rescue Labs that I absolutely adore. I installed "Invisible Fence" in order to keep them home and it's a dream come true. My oldest rescue, Hokie, roamed for companionship and I got the younger lab (3 months) but when I found out that they would eventually roam I made a phone call. We have 3 acres out of our nine enclosed and it works great. It took two days for them to figure out that they didn't want to cross the line. I love it and recommend it for anyone that wants a really great pet containment system.
