By George, I *think* we've got it! A name for Nug, that is...

I do believe we just may have a name for our son! It's a name that I've liked and been mentioning for awhile, but was always poo-pooed by Josh. You see, I'm getting a little freaked that I can now officially say "We're going to have a baby next month" and shared that anxiety with Josh last night. I said how much it bothered me that we were within two months of having our first baby and we couldn't decide on a name. He said "it's just a name" but it isn't - and if he really didn't care, he wouldn't be so picky! So I started going through the baby name book once again and really harped on one name in particular that I've liked for awhile. After a minute, Josh actually said "It could grow on me." And for the rest of the night, whenever he said the name, he smiled. I think that's a good sign.

You see, like my wedding I've been anticipating having children for the better part of 20 years. I was naming my future children well before I could even conceive them! Picking the perfect name has always been very important to me and I know a name is a good one when I hear/see the name with our last name and it makes my heart melt. There have been very few that make me feel that way and that Josh doesn't turn his nose up at right away. The one from last night made him smile, makes my heart melt, and sounds right. I really do think it's a fit.

However, to avoid stepping on anyone's toes we won't be sharing this one until he's born and it's on his birth certificate. That way, if it's a name that any of our friends/family had been planning on using we can honestly say we didn't know and I won't be stressing about it beforehand like I was with Benjamin. BUT since I don't actually know any of you in person, I can share it. You can give me your honest opinions on it and whether or not you think it goes with our last name, etc.

    It's...

    ....

    ....

    Aidan Joshua Patterson

    ....

Well? What do you think? I am loving it. I've always liked the name Aidan but whenever I mentioned it, Josh would make a face without even thinking about it! But maybe my anxiety about not having a name and really not having too much time left got to him. I don't know, all I know is that he smiles when he says it and doesn't say anything against it! It's very promising as this is the same course of acceptance that Evan took (he hated it at first, then said it could grow on him, then liked it better than any other name we had mentioned)... so I feel pretty confident that he'll grow to like Aidan even more and we will use it.

I love this name. I really hope it is the one.

Lovely! I think it sounds great, like the way it sounds aloud, with or without the middle name ...

I think it's absolutely sublime, I hope it's the one you stick with! Jaime, it's gorgeous. And, I think it's a great idea to keep it under wraps until the day of the birth.

Thanks, guys! I'm pretty stoked but trying to stay calm. It's not definite yet... just promising. I just think it's perfect.

    1. It's not Benjamin, so my friend will get her way - though I will be talking to her after Nug is born to let her know that for the next baby, all bets are off if it's a boy. I simply can't make any promises as coming up with a name for our FIRST son was so difficult. Girls names I have sewn up, I am completely and totally head-over-heels in love with 3 names, none of which are on "her" list (Katharine Grace, Kate for short; Rachel Victoria; Lila Elisabeth). But for boys? Very difficult and it's apparent that Josh and I don't agree on as much as we thought we did, boy name-wise.

    2. It's versatile enough that it would still go well with Benjamin, if we did have a second son and chose that name for him. It could go with old biblical names OR more contemporary ones... male or female. Aidan and Kate. Aidan and Rachel. Aidan and Lila. Aidan and Benjamin. See? It compliments all other names - old school or contemporary.

    3. I can hear Josh and me yelling at him. "AIDAN, STOP JUMPING ON THE BED!!" I can hear Josh saying "Aidan, do you want to go to a ballgame this weekend?" I can see me signing Christmas cards "Merry Christmas! Love, Josh, Jaime and Aidan". It's little imagery like that that helps me know if a name is right or not. I still love Benjamin, but hopefully by the next time I am pregnant my friend will have had a baby and will understand things from this side a little more. If not, I really don't care. I went out of my way not to hurt her this time around. If she can't understand that me liking the same name as her is not the end of the world, she's got a problem and no amount of appeasing/discussing/fighting her will change it.

I'm really glad you all like it though!

I really like that combination, Jaime! It's a hard decision, isn't it?

My grandmother died when both my sister and I were pregnant, with her baby due 4 months before mine was. I decided that if I had a girl, I wanted to name her "Hannah" in memory of my wonderful grandmother. Well, it turned out that my sister wanted to do the same thing, and knowing her baby was coming first, we moved on to other choices, just in case. Well, my sister had a boy! LOL!! But by that time, we had already chosen our girl name and it was Helen Rebekah and since we ended up with a girl, that's what we used!

You just never know, but in the end, it all works out!

Love it! Aiden is a wonderful name, and not too common. I love my name, but I *hate* how common it is.
