    Lysine

I've been talking with a woman(she's at the UofM neuro unit) who is helping me with Parker. I had mentioned Mollie Rose's sneezing, watery eyes, running nose, etc. I told her how the vet had her on Orbax and Interferon and it didn't work. She gave me this long explanation about the herpes virus and that MOST antibiotics won't work to get rid of it.

She told me that it has to do with a herpes virus. She said to go and get Lysine at any GNC store (500mg) and give her 1/4 of a tab 2 times a day. I started her on it yesterday. While I'm not expecting miracles overnight, I've already seen a definite difference in the amount of her sneezing.

I'll keep you posted as to how it's working. If it'll help my baby, I'm all for it!!!

    Donna,

All of mine have been put on L-lysine for a week or more now. They have been passing the leaky eye thing around since July.

I can't tell how well the lysine is working, Mr. Jones & Bella both still have eye problems. Snowy's eyes are cleared (he's had it twice) but he doesn't seem as bright eyed as before.

Now, my new foster girl is sneezing her head off, she just got a nasal vaccine for distemper (it can cause sneezing) but I think she's breaking with a real URI.
I'm putting her on Lysine too.

I got a giant tub of powdered lysine, just a tiny scoop mixed in with their food. (noone knows their food is spiked yet) I think the powder is great to work with, just not sure how effective it is yet.
    It is called VIRALYS.

    Good luck,

    Rose

Mollie Rose has been on the Lysine for 10 days now (1/4 tab once a day) and I definitely see a change.

Her eyes aren't leaking, her breathing is normal (she's not all stuffed up) and her sneezing has subsided somewhat. Before, her sneezing was 10 times in a row and sounded like they hurt. Now she hardly sneezes at all. I sure wish I had found this stuff years ago. Mollie Rose would've been feeling better alot sooner and I could've saved myself alot of money in medicines that didn't do any good AND outrageous vet bills.

Donna, I'm so glad to hear that the Lysine is working. Sometimes my Sunny and Sky sneeze a lot due to allergies and Sky also seems stuffy. When he's sleeping his nose makes a whistling noise. I wonder if this would help them too.

Many swear by L-lysine for preventing herpes from replicating. I have capsules of it but am often too rushed in the mornings to think of sprinkling it onto their wet food. Rose...where do you get the tubs of it? Amazing that an amino acid could be so effective to the point of many vets recommending it. Now if only it came ready mixed into canned food...

My vet gave me a tube of lysine gel. It's very thick and smells like maple syrup. Angel hates it! But it's fairly easy to administer since I went to the drug store and bought a medicine dropper for babies. So far I haven't seen a huge improvement, but I'm going to stick with it. I just hate seeing Angel so stuffy!

Whenever Mollie Rose gets stuffed up, I give her a half a tab of Chlortrimeton, an anti-histamine. That does the trick.
