Now french fries cause cancer? Ugh

It seems that every week 'they' come up with something else that may cause cancer. I heard on Good Morning America that the newest item is french fries. When will it end?? We will all have to live in bubbles! I think that it is not really known what causes cancer, except a few things like cigarette smoke. Sorry, just had to rant for a minute.

BTW, the study done for the french fries sounds very flawed. I think I'll just eat whatever I want and take my chances

This may be legit. A few years ago a chemical called "acrylamide" was found in old french fry oil, and is made when protein pieces react with hot oil The level is very low, but the chemical is toxic. But it's the dose that makes the poison. I think if one eats a moderate amount of fried food, the acrylamide isn't an issue.

The biggest problem, as analytical tests get more sensitive, you can "see" more stuff. This material was always there; now we can see it. In many cases it might be "too much information." The quantities detectable are small enough that it's hard to get a perspective on it.

I don't think there is a man made product that doesn't contain something that will cause cancer.

I'd rather take my chances and not worry than be paranoid and die of a stress heart attack lol.

I think it's safest to eat in moderation. Unless the info on tv was wrong, the study followed a bunch of people, some who ate french fries and some who didn't for a specified length of time, and those who ate french fries had a higher rate of cancer. Huh?? Ok, the first thing I learned in research methods in college is that correlation does NOT mean causation! Nothing at all was proved! If you look into a lot of studies, they are pretty flawed, and this one is no different.

Sorry, had to vent...I am so sick of hearing about everything causing cancer!

I just had some french fries last night! Oh well, I remember when they said that milk caused cancer. I agree I think most things in moderation won't hurt you.

I wonder what will be next.

Fingers crossed they discover that the only way to avoid cancer is to spend your life doing exactly what makes you happy with everything else bought and paid for!!!

    French Fries cause cancer?

Yow isnt that something.. I think these people needed real jobs & to much time on their hands to study out this stuff.. Next week it will be the grease that fries are cooked it cures cancer.. My notes are I tan all the time so I should have plenty of radiation to go both ways..

What doesn't cause cancer now-a-days? Really, if you have enough alkaline (sp?) in your body, you cannot get cancer, at least that is what someone told me...

Yikes! Now when people refer to "cancer sticks" I won't know if they are referring to cugarettes of french fries!

All this testing is just so silly. Whats next, they'll find out that people who gnaw on the end of their pencil are more likely to fall victim to throat cancer? Please, enough already!

LOL or a pen! I would be a prime candidate!

jesse_3 I have never heard of the alkaline before, but that is interesting.

I need to go order a bubble now, since that's the only way to avoid cancer (the sad thing is, I'd still get it anyway!)

    What about Waffle Fries?

If waffle fries cause cancer, can I quit my job?

I too get sick of reading what causes cancer these days, it appears everything we eat and drink and breath does, they are saying the aspartamane in Diet drinks is bad for you again, before they said it was, then said it was ok , now they are saying it causes cancer too, I think we just have to try our hardest to have things in moderation and cross our fingers and hope for the best, life is a gamble , let's face it.
