    butter vs margarine

not sure how true this is, but, glad i don't eat it. i just copied and pasted this from an email i just read. enjoy!

    Facts about Butter vs Margarine

DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories. Butter is slightly higher in
saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams. Eating margarine can
increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of
butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other
    foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only
    because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the
    flavors of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around
    for less than 100 years.

    And now, for Margarine..

Very high in trans fatty acids...

Triple risk of coronary heart disease.

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol)

Lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) ..

Increases the risk of cancers by up to five fold...

    Lowers quality of breast milk...

    Decreases immune response...

    Decreases insulin response.

And here are the most disturbing facts....

HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC....... And
margarine is initially BLACK, but it is DYED YELLOW to look like
butter. These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine
for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen
is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance)..

YOU can try this yourself: purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in
your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a
couple of things: no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go
near it (that should tell you something) ... it does not rot or smell
differently because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on
it...even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not find a home to
grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your
Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

I knew about Margarine being plastic a long time ago. When I found out I was allergic to dairy products, none of my friends believed me. I told them I was not eating plastic, and I could not eat butter. But now, I'm not so allergic to butter, but I just choose not to eat either if given the choice (obviously, in some things it's NEEDED) because it's unneeded calories and fat, for both.

Very interesting article though. I'll have to save this thread and show it to people.

One molecule away from plastic? Huh, that sounds like that whole Swiffer junk and it being "one molecule away from antifreeze".

Honestly, I wouldn't take this e-mail very seriously.

Plus, it's chain mail isn't it?

The bit about margarine being close to plastic is true, but there are MANY foods that are one atomic bond away from being inedible.

Margarine is not black before being dyed, it's whitish and when first produced was required by law to be sold as is with a dye packet separately so it wouldn't be mistaken for butter. How would you dye something yellow if it was naturally black?

ha ha, that's why i put my own little disclaimer at the start of it. some of it i believe. some of it makes me go....hmmmmm......

i don't consider all forwarded stuff to be chain mail, but, if that's what you meant, then, yeah. it was forwarded to a few people. i'll forward it to a couple, maybe. not sure yet. but, i remember that stuff about swiffer, too.

Ohhhh butter is so yummy... One reason I couldn't wait to get married and into my own household was so I could use butter instead of margarine like my mom did.

I certainly don't believe everything I read, if so we would not beable to eat anything really, however we are Margerine eaters here in this household, we have a brand called Lite Olivani, it is not high in bad fats, and is generally good for you, well so it says on the packet.

I rarely eat the stuff, except maybe on some toast, but I never put it on sandwhiches,so my consumption is very low.

We use butter here too. It's really starting to come out more and more that "lower fat" doesn't always mean "healthier/better for you." We really try to avoid synthetic or heavily processed foods.

Yeah, I try to avoid trans fats, but, not fat altogether. If I don't use butter, I use this stuff called Fleishman's and I use the type made with olive oil, so there are no trans fats.
