Seven weeks after Bijou's spay, now an abscess?

Bijou was spayed in early March and did beautifully. Her incision looked great from day one, and had healed really nicely. We rub her belly daily and always remark how great her tummy looks.

However, this morning - much to my surprise - it looks like there's an abscess on one end of her scar -- it's about a fingertip in size, is puffy and swollen as though there's perhaps infected fluid inside, and is red all around the base of it. Poor baby!

I'm thinking that perhaps one of her interior stitches has worked its way up and is now near enough the surface to infect a bit of the scar area -- I'll be calling our vet as soon as they open but I'm guessing they'll need to lance it, remove the suture (if that's what it is) and put some antibiotic ointment on it.

Did any of you have this occur with your pup? She's her usual self otherwise; playful, goofy, sweet.

Thanks! I'll keep you guys posted after the vet takes a look.

It does sound like that's what it could be. I'm glad
the Vet is going to check it out for you. Hope it clears up soon.

Turns out it was a reaction to the suture material causing inflammation and a secondary infection. My vet drained the abscess and confirmed her abdominal muscles were completely healed. So, Bijou is now on two weeks of amoxicillin and 10 days of Rimadyl along with daily warm compresses. My poor baby
