    The Kitty Shuffle

We got a notice on our door tonight that they're coming in to re-light our pilot light as they had to install a new boiler. That means I have to hide and move some furballs around.

Can you believe they wouldn't allow 8 cats here??

Noah, Noel and Hermione will be shut in our bedroom

Micah is going to hang out in the bathroom

Jonah is going to be in the walk-in closet (Livvy's old room)

Basie will be able to run free...he's the one that would dig under the door and meow his head off all day if he was shut in. I'm contemplating leaving Noah out with him, but know Noah is a fear biter, so maybe not.

I'll be taking the babies to CiCi's house at 7 a.m. so they can spend the day in her guest room.

I'm not sure if I could bring Micah to work with me...or if I should have him stay at CiCi's with the babies or not. I worry that with Basie running free, he'll dig under the doors from the outside...something that I don't want the people to see. If I did that, I could put Basie in the bathroom. Hmmm....

I hate when they come in...its such a huge ordeal! I have to clean the apartment and move litter boxes and framed pictures so they don't know we have more than 2.

    Fun stuff!

That must be rough. I am glad we're finally getting our own house and not renting anymore, so in the event that we do get more cats or a dog, it isn't anyone's business but our own.

As it is, our Claudia is "staying with us" if anyone asks - we're saying it's b/c of Mom's allergies. We got a 3rd cat with our landlady's permission, and she's been soooo great, but we didn't want to push it, so we never really mentioned Miss Claudia. We'll be out soon anyway, so it won't much matter. Claudia has definitely not been detrimental to the house, so it works out. If the house is being shown to new potential renters while we're still living here, all the cats will be coming with us for a car ride, anyway. The Cat Rescue signs on the door say 4 b/c of Claudia "staying with us".

It's weird how you have to get around these things. In our apt when we lived in Louisiana, we didn't really address the whole 2nd cat issue when we got Leila, b/c that was 2 months before we were moving anyway. What we cat lovers don't do for our little balls of fur!

Thanks to krazyaboutkatz for the cute avatar and wolf_Q for the cute siggy!

Rest in Peace, sweet Leo. You are sorely missed!

    Yea...we have to be sneaky.

Our actual leasing office doesn't know we have any cats. If they find out...we'd say "we forgot to tell them and that we only have 2". But our complex has over 600 units and the repair people have no idea who "has cats" and who "doesn't", so we're safe there.

Oh oh, you've been naughty !! . What would happen if they found out the truth ? I hope it all goes well for you. Better give the cats akitty-tranqilizer, so they can sleep the day away . Be careful with the litterboxes; you might not smell it because you live there every day; but other people might get curious.... .
Good luck with the kitty shuffle!!

Tikes! Sounds like a major pain in the you-know-what! I'm sure your apartment is cleaner with those 8 cats than many people with one toddler!

Sorry about the hassle. I don't understand the reasoning behind limits on well taken care of pets.

Somewhere in the back of my head, I recall some limits on pets(even indoor) in our subdivision. And we own our home.

    I just disregard it.

Sometimes I think I want to have a nice little plaquard on the door, you know for the firemen, or rescue, in case there's a disaster: Please save our pets.
And a little number on a dial, saying how many there are, and little laminated photos of them, so they know which are missing...but then I think, is there someone out there going to give me grief over how many I keep in this massive 5 bedroom house?

    I say it's our business.

Yikes! Best of luck with the shuffle.

At least the place gives you notice! At my apartment complex, sometimes they'll just go in and do work and leave me a note afterwards.

I never told them I had cats, but both Zam and Logan split when someone unfamilier comes in, so the litter box and toys are the only clue. *laughs*

Rosy...I totally agree! If they are well taken care of, why is it an issue? I do realize that it'd be hard to monitor and would maybe have unfit people having too many animals. But, oh well. I disregard it like you.

    Kitty shuffle:
    Noah, Micah, Hermie - bedroom
    Jonah - closet
    Babies - bathroom
Basie & Noel - free run

That was so involved! I wanted to make sure they were happy and that none escaped or bit the workers.

Can't wait to get home and let them all out.

    Kim,

Luckily the pilot light is right at the front door. The work people usually are disinterested when they come...so I'm counting on that.

Wow, sounds like quite the hassle. Good luck and like you say, hopefully the workmen just don't care, light the pilot light and go on their way. Good luck!
