    A New Addition!

We are so excited! We brought home a new rattie today. His name is Max and is all white with a grey head and grey speckles on his back. I can't wait to take some pics to show you all. He is the cutest little thing!
Chuck our cat and Nina our Chihuahua are very excited too! We made sure that Max is out of reach for of his nosy brother and sister. Just in case, you know!
I will post pics asap. Just couldn't wait to tell you all about our new baby!

We brought home Max's brother tonight! We named him Stuart. They are both pretty much the same coloring except Max has a grey spot on his back and Stuart has a grey spot at the base of his tail! They are so cute!

Question though. The shop we got them from assured us that they are both males, and look the same down there but Max keeps *humping* Stuart. Is this just a territorial thing or should I be worried that Stuart is maybe a girl.

I have done a lot of reading before getting these two, but can find nothing on telling what sex they are.

    Thanks

Congratulation on the new additions, Aki! How old are your ratties?

I just did a quick search for finding the sex of rats, and I found a couple pages.

How do I tell a male from a female?

    I hope this helps!

    THANK YOU Emma!

You will laugh. My Chihuahua has *adopted* them. I think she thinks they are her babies! LOL

I think they are just a few months old. About the size of an adult hampster. I am in love!

Thank you so much Emma! I have been checking around the internet and getting nowhere.

I checked them both again and am positive they are both boys.

    You are the best!

Rats mount eachother all the time. Babies do it to eachother out of play, and female rats will also mount other females when in heat. It's all very common. With older bucks, they like to mount younger boys to show them who's boss.

Congratulations on your new ratties. I can't wait to see pictures! If you have any questions at all on care, feeding, husbandry etc. just ask.

    Second what Cass said.

And trust me, you can tell the difference quickly between a male and a female that is for sure!!

Here is a picture that might help you just to make sure:

Thanks for all the info everyone! We are really enjoying these guys!

Petlover, our chi Nina thinks the ratties are her babies! LOL She cleans them and watches over like a mommy. She even tried to nurse them last night! LMAO They don't care, they just like the attention!
