I got to pet an Iguana tonight!

We have been getting to know this couple from church recently, and tonight we went to their house for a BBQ. I knew they had a German Shepherd named Jake, but boy was I surprised to "meet" their iguana named Jaime.

I even got to pet her!!!! She is soooo SOFT! I would never have believed it. She is shedding a bit right now. And when you talk to her, the thing ( uhh...I don't know what you would call it) under her chin becomes all decked out and she tilts her head likes she is listening.

The dog and the iguana get along great. She loves being licked by the dog. Most days, they let her roam around the house and she will sit on the shelf in their laundry room. She also will crawl out onto their sunporch.

I don't think I would ever have one as my own pet, but they sure are fascinating and BEAUTIFUL creatures.

And they also have two cats, only one of whom I got to see. They have invited us to bring our two dogs over some time, so that the 3 of them can go swimming in the pond behind their house. Yes, yes, I promise to take pictures next time!!!

OOh so exciting. I love iguanas, though they require so much care. I am glad you got to see one. They really are fascinating creatures. I'd love to see pics of them all in the pond together one day if you get the chance.

I have to learn to read more carefully..I read "I got a pet Iguana tonight!" Oh well!! Getting to pet one is almost as good My college roommate had one for awhile and he was fun to have around.

I have seen them but never had the nerve to touch one before! They do look neat but I don't know if I'd like to have one as a pet. My dogs would go nuts & probably try to kill the poor thing!

Tht flap under her chin as a "dewlap" Congrats on making such a beautiful friend, there's nothing quite like the sight of a full-grown Iggy.

    Thank you Wolf_Q!

My son had an iguana several years ago. At the time we only had the cats and no dogs. I walked into the room one day to see Trevor sitting on the floor staring at something. As I got closer I saw that it was the iguana! Somehow it had gotten out of its cage. I don't know how long they had been sitting and staring at each other like that but I wasn't going to wait around to see what would happen! LOL! I ran over and picked up the iguana (I had never even touched one before, let alone picked one up) and put him back in his cage. My son was very impressed with me when I told him later on.

My rescued iggy Carmen made POTD

http://petoftheday.com/archive/2004/July/02.html She's such an easy going lizard and quite tolerant of the dogs and cats..she whips them into submission with her tail! She was to be a foster until I realised what a nice temperment she has. Now she's a keeper.
