As some of you know, I work in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska (up on the Arctic Ocean). So, I'm away from home 2 weeks out of the month. I haven't been able to get involved with kitty rescue as much as I would like due to my schedule. I tried volunteering at our no-kill shelter but they weren't thrilled that I couldn't stick to a regular weekly schedule.

One program this shelter has is "Adopt a Cage". That's how I've decided to stay involved with them. New shelter arrivals are kept isolated in these cages pending the outcome of their health tests, shots and alteration.

We've adopted a cage in Kuhio's name. In this way their medical expenses are paid for. (We also adopted Cammie and Pepper from them).

Just thought I'd pass it along to those of you brainstorming ideas for your shelter. (Maybe this is a common program, but I hadn't heard of it before this shelter).

Pictures of the babies (so far) in Kuhio's cage in the next post.
