little fact about cats drinking water.....

I am not certain how many people know this, I was unaware of this until I read it on whiska website, did you know that drinking water should not be drank straight away from the tap, left for 24 hrs as the chlorine in the water irritates your cats nose, cannot say I have ever noticed this, but from now on I am going to do this.

Interesting Carole, I didn't know that, but for years I've only been giving Max and Speckles water from the Brita.

Me??? I drink tap water. Shows you who's the most important in my house.

I knew that about fish tanks, but not for cats. (mine drink bottled water, anyway, and so do I)

I didn't know that. we both drink from the tap around here.

You know it may or may not help, but it definately won't hurt I will start doing that. Thanks.

I hadn't heard that. We use a Pur water filter here for our drinking water and the pets water but Ripley likes to drink from the guest bath sink and there is no filter in there.

We fill all the animals' bowls with filtered water, but they go straight for the shower as soon as we finish as they prefer the warm water that pools on the shower base

I don't think it will do them much harm, to be honest I have never noticed them get irritated when drinking water, ours is straight from the tap, mind you it is often sitting for almost 24 hrs before they drink it anyhow, I am only passing on what I read on the Whiskas site, which is a good site with lots of helpful information, so I think it is pretty reliable.

I am curious, do cats like their water really cold , like out of the fridge or just cool, just a thought?

I didn't know that either Carole - although the water is never left for 24 hours - either Tricky comes along and slurps the lot or I refresh the water!!

Must admit when it's very cold I have been known to put some hot water in and take the chill off! They do seem to appreciate it too!

    New person me

Hi.......I have three dogs, two cats (rescue) and three chickens. My two kitties (one is 15 years old) only love fresh sparkling water in a bowl. My old girl will sit in front of the bowl and look up to the ceiling as if asking "hello? Is anyone here to fix my water?". I always do. Thanks for all the hints I have read here.

I didn't realize this, good to know. before I moved to Florida, I always gave my cats tap water. However, the tap water down here supposedly has alot of chemicals, so most people either drink bottled water, or filtered water- which is what we all drink. My cats seem to prefer room tempature water. Thanks for the info.

Because the water here in Ecorse, MI has a strong odor of chlorine, both me and my cats drink filtered water. I have always given my cats filtered water. ALTHOUGH...Doogie has a ritual every morning when I get out of the shower, he has to have his "sippy" from the bathroom faucet.

    Thanks for the info.
