How much $$ do you think you spend on cat food a month?

David told some people last night that we spend about $200.00 a month on cat food. I objected at first, but thought it actually sounded correct!

    We buy:

    two 7lb bags of Royal Canin "Indoor" = $14.99 x 2 = $30

    two 7lb bags of Royal Canin "Special" = $18.99 x 2 = $40

    two 3.5lb bags of Royal Canin "Kitten" = $9.99 x 2 = $20

    one 3.5lb bag of Royal Canin "Slim" = $9.99 x 1 = $10

    two cases Innova canned cat food = 21.00 x 2 = $44

    two cases Nutro kitten canned food = 13.99 x 2 = $28

Grand total: $172.00 just for food!

Wow....its scary when I actually write it down....

Oh well...they're worth it. Just don't tell David we REALLY do spend that much! shhhhhh

PLEASE tell me we aren't the only ones....please??

Hmmm it only costs about $2.00/day to feed my two furbabies.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

oooh, that might make me feel better if I look at it that way... 8 cats/$172...

Comes to 21.50 per cat, per month.
2.68 per cat, per day...not too bad if I look at it that way.

I have 8 cats in my house right now too - 7 of them are growing kittens So I spend about the same as you at the moment, Kelly. Thankfully, 6 of them are fosters or I'd be on the street!

I'd love to keep them all if I could. But I can't

i guess in this matter i'm lucky to only have one sweet kitty mouth to feed. let's see, i buy 2 3.5-pound bags of AlleyCat, and about 10 4-packs of 9lives canned food each month... the Alley cat is about $7 a bag and the 4-packs are $1 each at our commisary so i guess i only spend about $25 on food a month for Boomer. But then add in Litter, toys, and treats and the price goes up dramatically

Hmm .. approximately 2 4 lb bags of PetGold; plus 1 bag of Pouncer treats - I probably spend around $20 a month on cat food (more or less depending on sales). Not too bad -- whatever it costs, they're worth it!

We are at somewhere around 60 or so for the 2. It might actually be a little less.

So I guess that Slick's 2.00 per day is about where I am at also.

I buy the large 20-25lb bag of Nutro Complete Care Weight Management Formula and it's about $28.00 or so a bag. The bag lasts me at least a month to a month and a half. I also mix in a little bit of Felidae dry cat food and it cost me about the same but I'm not going to buy any more after I finish this bag.

I also buy a few treats here and there but they last me for a while and then there's litter. So I guess I spend about $40 a month total for everything and about $30 for food. All 4 cats only eat about 3/4 - 1 cup of food a day.

I was buying 2 bags of Royal Canin. The "Slim" and "Hair and Coat" so that was probably about $23.00 but since it ended up being like 10 pounds of food or so and with one kitty, it doesn't really end up being all that much. B/c that can last me 2 mos or more.
Now I am buying Science Diet Hairball Light which won't last me quite as long.

I fugure I spend about $160 to $ 200 a month of my babies. But I have 9 cats so I guess all in all it's not to bad, only 5 to 6 cents a day.

Now that I look at it that way I can tell my husband that they don't cost that much after all.

I go shopping for Nellie twice a month...she then has her dry food (HappyCat) and organic canned food and of course her malt/vitamine paste...that turns out to the total amount of close to 20-25 Euro per shopping...so I am close to 50 Euro a month for cat food...

    Well, she's really a gourmet...

$200 wow but you have several cats of course
Well we spend about $35 for the 4 cats on their dry food. Not bad, I think, it's the price of a 5 kg bag of food and we hope it will last 2 months, because we're mixing it with light food ($18/month), so I guess all together we spend about $50 per month, plus the occasional wet food....

We bought our first smaller bag of Nutro Complete Care Weight Management Formula and it lastest not quite a month, I was mixing ($7.00 a bag) now we got 20 lbs bag and it's about $26.00 a bag at PetSmart, I think. We just opened the bag a few days ago. This may only last a month since I'm not mixing it with anything else. Love the shape of this stuff looks like mini footballs.

    Kely,
Do you actually USE all that in one month??? That's 38.5 pounds plus 2 cases for 8 cats. My own 14 cats only eat about 45 pounds a month 1 1/4 cases of canned in a month.

my cost for the dry is $37 for a 20 pound bag, 2 bags (possibly 2 1/4 bags) per month. = $74
    canned food (approximately) = $10
foster cat......I never figured out how much they eat, and I have 10 right now, more than ever..........so I really don't know. (and I can get donated food OR reimbursement for food if I ask)
