Has anyone lost a pet? How old was it when you put it down or when it died?

I hope Frisky doesn't have to be put down...but he's older now and i have this feeling that something is going to happen to him? Just curious on the age your cats were. thanks so much.

Well I haven't lost any cats yet thankfully. Trevor is my first cat and he is 10 and Andy is almost 7. I hope I have many more years with them.

I have lost 4 poodles over the years, though, but 3 of the 4 lived long lives. Pumpkin was 17, Peaches was 15, Ashley was 14 and Whitney died suddenly one day while we were at work at the age of 8 1/2 (apparently of a heart attack).

How old is Frisky?

Y.Lee's age was unkown, but we supect at least 11
(all cats, and all but Thumper needed to be put down. a hard choice, but you know when it is time)

yes sadly i lost sooti only 6weeks ago, he was only about 15 mths old, we are not sure what happened to him, he was found in our carport, it appeared he had been hit by a car, but we shall never know, was a very sad day in my life, u may have read about lexie my new kitty who is so like him in many ways, i wonder if he sent her to me lol

Kizzy was 24 when she we had to put her to sleep. She had been having kidney problems for about two years and I had to give her saline injections for the last year - when she got bad, we were making arrangements for a kidney transplant (I was going to adopt the donor as well...) But when the time came, the vet said that even if it worked, her quality of life wouldn't be good so we decided to let her go. That was five years ago and I still cry when I think of her but I know that it was the right thing to do and that helps a lot...

i know how u feel, losing them is so hard, at least your pussycat had a good long life and lots of love for sure, 24 is a ripe old age, must be one of the oldest cats in the world, glad your new kitties are giving u such joy, but u will never forget kizzy

While growing up at home, I had a Siamese cat that lived to the age of 23. My parents brought her home when I was 5 years old and we grew up together.

My best childhood memories are with that cat and when we put her down a little of me went with her.

Sheba just passed on at 12 , heart attack , Pouncer 10 , Mr Fluffy 12 , Mr Scrappy 16 , all had to be put down and Smokey passed away in my arms on the porch as I was waiting for a ride to the Vets. He was 23 , I adopted him from the shelter when he was at least 16.

Inky was 17 when he was put to sleep. Shadow 16 and Cleo was 6 yrs.

Cleo was the only one I could not get over. I decided it was because I was in the room with Inky and Shadow when the vet gave the shot. In Cleo's case, I didn't even know that he had been pts.

For me, it is important to be with the cat when he dies (important for me, I don't think the cat cares).

I lost two of my pets in a sense...I lost them to a divorce!
It's a long story but let me tell you - I miss them so much it hurts.
But I know they're well loved and looked after at least. I still feel guilty though and I hope that somehow they know that I didn't "abandon" them but had no choice to leave...

Our old Tortie cat was 15 years old when she died of a heart-attack in front of me.
Skittles (rat) was around 2 years old when she died in my arms.
Oreo (rat) was around 2 years old when we had to put her to sleep because of her tumor.
Punkin (rat) was one year old when she had to be put to sleep due to heart failure.
Klein Hans (Guniea Pig) died when he was 4 years old, of old age.

The Arabian horse that I took English lessons on for 5 years just passed away a while ago. Pretty bummed about that.

My collie Lassie was 14 when she had to be put down. I was an only child. We added her to our family when I was just 3 years old. I was the final vote for when it was "time". I grew up with her, she was my best friend and sister. I still mourn her at times and I am almost 41 now.

My first cat Smokey died at 14 of renal failure. My second cat Killer Sue died at 15 of intestinal cancer. My husbands first cat Farfel died at 18.

My Ella was 13 and died of a tumor. Our oldest cat, Patty, is now 19 years old, Ginger is 14, Louis is 13, and Krissy is 7-1/2 - they are all still with us!

it varies so much. My Who-cat was 14 when she died. I took her to the vet because she didn't seem well and she died right there. I believe that she died because our dog that she grew up with died just a few months before that.

I made the decision to have Lucy put down. She was 11 years old when she became sick. X-rays showed a tumor. I opted not to have surgery because she seemed so weak that I believed that she wouldn't have survived it. Did I make the right decision? I honestly don't know - but my decision wasn't guided by finances but by what I believed would give her the best quality of life.

Crystal lived to be 17 or 18, we're not exactly sure how old she was. She was diagnosed with kidney failure two years before she died. We had her on special food and once had to bring her in for some intensive treatments involving a lot of water to flush out her kidneys. We finally had her put down because she became very sick and listless and weak and we realized that we couldn't just keep her alive to waste away.

We never know how long we'll have, so try not to worry, and enjoy the time that you have now. Your kitty could be around for a year, or for 10 years
