    Another baby to the Rainbow Bridge

    Well, some of you may know that my parent's cat (our old family cat), Socks, was diagnosed with diabetes a couple of months back. Things got pretty bad over Christmas vacation, but then he slowly improved. He's been doing so well the past several weeks, and was in fact "normal" at his last vet visit. Everything was being regulated just fine with the insulin shots, and his levels were down to 47, which is good.

    Yesterday, my mom found him on the floor (diabetic coma or possibly sugar shock) and rushed him to the vet. They were able to revive him, but he had to stay overnight. He had a small seizure this morning, so this afternoon, my dad left work early to be with my mom. They decided to help him over to the Rainbow Bridge, because they both felt that his quality of life just wouldn't be that good if he did recover from whatever it was that happened. I just don't understand it. He was doing so well. My mom is not taking it well at all. She broke down at the loss of our dog Misty in 1999, and now Socks. He was with our family for 14 years. I always thought that he would live longer than that. It's really hard because nobody around me understands how my mom and I feel about this. We're getting the typical "it's only a cat" and "well, these things happen" responses from those around us, so there's no comfort there. I knew you all would understand. We're so sad for this loss. Socks really was a great cat.
    Tearfully,
    Karen

    I know - its really hard for non-pet people to understand the pain and loss that we feel. I don't know if we even understand it sometimes.

    But we know that the pain and grief is real and sometimes we need what seems like a really long time to mourn.

    I'm very sorry for your loss.

    Prayers are on the way for you and your whole family. I'm sure Socks knows he was very loved and is probably telling all the others at the Rainbow Bridge about his wonderful family. I think your parents made the most loving choice for him and he is no longer in pain. He probably feels like a kitten again now. I'm sure you will all be together again some day. Until then, he will keep an eye on you and play with all our dear animals who are at the bridge. Be at peace, dear Socks.

    Not another one!!!
    That's so hearbreaking!!! Socks, now you can frolick in the sunshine all you want and you're no longer in pain, little one. God, please help ease the pain of Karen and her Mom and Dad.

    Karen, just ignore those idiots around you who don't understand and make such disgusting comments! They obvious have no compassion!

    Our thoughts and prayers are with you! May the good memories of Socks surround you forever!

    Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

    Goodbye Socks..

    Sweet Socks- you brightened the lives of many during your little kitty life (furry lives are way too short) and your passing leaves a very big hole in your humans' hearts. RIP little one. Karen, you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. {{{hugs}}}

    I'm so sorry to hear about Socks. I'm sure that he is sleeping in the sun with my two kitties I lost this summer (Vincent and Rodan). You and your family are in my thoughts.

    I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Socks. I know (we all know) how much it hurts to lose such a special friend. And they may be a cat but they are NEVER "just a cat". Peace be with you and your Mom at this time of sorry.
