    Worms in cats

    Hello to all pet lover

My 1 year old NM male cat, has worms and I am pretty sure it is him and not my other two cats. When we adopted him, he didn't get his other deworming done. I don't know what kind of worms he has but I want to find out what kind of worms he has, they are small and white in color. Does anyone know what kind it is? Please e-mail with an answer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like tapeworms (do they look like rice, sorta?), but take him to a vet (along with a fecal sample) to make sure. Your other two cats might need to be dewormed too. If one has worms there's a good chance the others do too, especially if they share stuff like litterboxes.

When I first adopted my Pumpkin I found out that she had roundworms. I never actually saw any worms, but her stomach was huge for a little kitten. Luckily we got her treated in time so she didn't spread it to my other guys.

Since there are different kinds of worms, the best thing to do would be to bring a fecal sample to the vet (it wouln't hurt to bring a worm too). With the proper meds, your kitty will be fine and free of those nasty worms before you know it!! Best of luck!

I go with the advice already given. And it's good to give your cats a deworming pill every few months. Just to be on the safe side.

    Worms in cats

When I limited my stray cats to the house and pen, I started them on Revolution. It takes care of fleas, heartworm, ear mites and at least one kind of worm. The cost is about the same as flea protection and heartworm medication. Only one thing to remember every month.

Tapeworms come from ingesting infected fleas.

You should take your cat in for a fecal examine. When I got Tibby I took in a sample and they found tapeworms, it wasn't too costly. $25 for the fecal test and then I spent $36 on the treatments. You really should take in a sample for testing.

Is it hard to see the tapeworms in the litterbox, it's really hard to to tell who has worms because we have two other cats.

I didn't see them in Tibby, but they are supposed to be about the size of a grain of rice. And if you can, it wouldn't hurt to bring in samples of all three cats, it's a good thing to get done every once in a while. If you can't afford to get that done, take them into the petsmart shot clinic (if your local petsmart does that) and get them dewormed a Drontal dewormer (that gets rid of tapeworms) will be either $11.52 or $14.99 depending on the size of your cats. They also have a dewormer that gets rid of round & hookworms which costs $8.00 per cat.
