Our dogs operation gone wrong!!!!

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post.
We took our pet Staff terrier into the vets a few weeks back with a lump on her side, the stand in vet who was there as the normal vet was on holiday said she could remove the lump, she took various checks to make sure our dog could take the operation, we got her from a rescue home and so have no idea how old she is, we guess she's around the 12 year mark. The vet gave us a price for the operation and all aftercare not including medicines etc.
Anyway she had the operation on a Wednesday, we took her back the following Saturday for a check up, the vet said everything was coming along nicely, she mentioned that the black skin was just a bruise under the skin. we took her back for another check up on the following Wednesday, no problem again, my wife took our god back for removal of her stitches today (Wednesday) only for the normal vet back from holiday to tell us that the black mark under the skin is her skin dying, he has said that he would have to treat it as an open wound and cut away the skin in sections.
Obviously we were very surprised after believing our dog was recovering well only to be told that she wasn't and that the skin removal was a lenghy procedure to be done over time.
Firstly surely this should be in with the aftercare, we have not got pet insurance and can not afford to pay for this new procedue although he has not told us how much yet.....the receptionist said it would be quite a lot of money after my wife told her we did not have pet insurance.
Any ideas please?

I would definitely protest the extra cost, and talk to whoever is in charge of the practice. Let them know that the first vet said it was "a bruise" and should have both known better and done something about it then as part of the aftercare. That's negligence, and the dead skin does need to be removed now anyway, they should take it out of whatever she was paid.

I am so sorry to read of your poor baby & problems.. I will have to agree with Karen.. I would say the Vet that did the surgery should have to cover the cost.. Oh Welcome to Pet Talk & enjoy the talks & pictures..
