Kitty Gas

This may be a strange question.. but do your cats have gas? My new cat Tibby will get all relaxed on my bed and then let out a big stinker. None of my other cats have done this before. Is it just a kitten thing?

When I first rescused Luke, I almost named him Odie short for odoriferous. He was awful! I almost needed a gas mask to be around him. He was about 3 months old at the time. Luckily, after a few months on regular cat food his problem cleared up. Good luck!

When Calvin was little he used to eat canned kitty food. EVERY time I picked him up he'd blow a big stinky one! It stopped once he went onto dry food thank goodness.
My friend had a kitty that used to wait for her to go to bed and jump up, aim and fire directly into her face! LOL. He thought it was very amusing to see her carry on I think. LOL

Sounds just like Basil!!! It may be a kitten thing, our others don't do this anymore. I guess their bodies are still developing. I know it doesn't exactly help that he steals the CAT food and eats his kitten food as well.

It has generally been noticed concerning this problem, that canned food is worse about making gas and etra litter than dry food. However, I have a 1-year old cat, Fawn, that has always been "gassy", and his brother Snow Cat (RB) regardless of what they ate.

When I first got Cassy and Sassy they were very gassy and quite smelly. The vet gave them medicine for worms that reduced both. It's very rare that Cassy has gas now that he's an adult cat (and usually eats dry food, too).

Bassett has been known to let out a stinker. And they REALLY stink!!!

My parent's cat, Patches, and her daughter Punkin, were strays and when we first started feeding them again (after they had been in the wild for a while.. we rescued and kept them), Patches had the very worst gas ever. She constantly would hop in my lap and stick her butt in my face.. I didn't like it but I didn't want to discourage her from trusting people again!

Uabassoon - Yep I put it down to tinned cat food too. When we rescued our three they were all on tinned food - oh boy were they stinky! Needed a gas mask sometimes.
Put them on dried food and- BINGO - the smells stopped wafting over, thank goodness.

I can certainly relate as I had the same problem with Schuyler . . . P-U! His GI tract has settled down now and although I'd welcome the ease of simply offering him a dry diet, he REALLY loves canned Fancy Feast Grilled, so . . . I cannot deny him and it does not seem to cause any gastric distress.

Since my three have been on an only dry food diet, they have also been less gassy. Another problem that they had was that they would get the runs from time to time. I'm so glad that they don't have this problem anymore. I used to have to clean their bottoms with baby wipes and they hated this. Good luck.
