Should I or Shouldn't I???

I have a lump on my side. It's about the size of a dime. It doesn't hurt or anything. I have a tendency to develop sebacious cysts (sp?). I had a couple of them removed years ago. I went to my regular doctor who said that's what it was and it's nothing to worry about. But the fact that it's there bothers me. My Mom developed a lump on her back and it turned out to be cancerous. My Dad had skin cancer.

Should I have it removed and biopsied or just leave it be??

Since cancer runs in your family, definitely at least get a 2nd opinion!

You can never be too careful. That lump I found in my breast, the one the doctors said not to worry about, turned out to be Stage 1 cancer. I had to pester them to take another look and am glad I did.

Get it removed. A sebaceous cyst can get infected, then it's painful and messy. Get it gone, and biopsied, as its better safe than sorry.

I guess you're right. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow and have him refer me to a surgeon. Maybe they can even remove it in the office.

You should. As it is very likely only sebaceous it will not be much trouble and you'll feel much better.

I say, go and have it removed. It may not be anything dangerous - and then you won't keep thinking about it.

For you to have complete peace of mind, I think you should get it removed. We thought Cassie, our dalmatian, had one of those or a fatty tumor, and it ended up being an infected cyst which really made her sick. I don't mean to compare your situation with my dog's, but just that it can get infected and become quite ugly.

Get a second opinion. My Dad is being treated for Lymphoma right now and doing well. But had he not gotten a 2nd opinion, it would still be undiscovered.

I had one on my shoulder for years, and finally got it drained. It exploded all over the doctor and the wall of her office. I'd waited so long that it was still emptying for more than a week. It hadn't been dangerous at all, but it was right under my bra strap DRIVING ME NUTS, and I was glad to have it gone! I wished I'd gotten rid of it sooner, because it took so long to finally empty out that I couldn't swim in fresh for a month because it had to be kept open to drain.
