I feel terrible, Vivian was killed.

I don't know what happened, my dwarf hamster Vivian was killed by one of the dogs. I was VERY careful with her and she was on a shelf way above my bed so the pups couldn't get to her. She must have slipped through the bars on the cage, but something doesn't add up. The bars are close together and she is bigger than she was a month ago, but it's the only answer.
I was at the Cubs game all day yesterday and when I came home Jimmy was laying on one of the dog beds with what I though was a rawhide next to him. It was dark in the living room and I didn't think anything of it. I went into my room and changed Vivian's water but I didn't see her. She sleeps during the day and I thought since the light was on she was hiding in the bedding. Then I went up to Jimmy to tell him good night I saw her. I realized it wasn't a rawhide; it was poor Vivian, lying lifeless next to Jimmy. The cage had not been opened all day. Her little body is intact and there was no blood, but she's dead and I feel absolutely horrible. I've NEVER had this happen before. The weird thing is, she was just lying next to Jim, and I would have thought Harley would have torn her up, but he didn't even see her. I really failed her.

RIP little Vivian, I'm so sorry.

Poor little Vivian, play hard at the Rainbow Bridge sweetie.

(She probably didn't feel a thing, don't feel bad, okay? These things sometimes just happen.)

    Oh gosh.
I'm so sorry. I know you did what you could to prevent this, but it just happens sometimes. One of our mice was notorious for escaping and scared us many a time. I know you loved Vivian alot and I know she had a great time and plenty of love when she was with you!
    Please don't blame yourself.

Thank you for the kind words, it really does make me feel better, but I still feel so bad. Poor little girl . When my pets die I always feel good that I did everything possible for them. Poor Viv wasn't even sick.

Aw, Diane, I am so so sorry. How awful, RIP little Vivian. I know whatever anyone says can't stop you tearing yourself apart, but you have nothing to feel guilty about. You gave her a wonderful life whilst she was with you and she would thank you for that.

    (((hugs))

I'm sorry. I know how much you loved her--I'm sure it happened quick and like Karen said she didn't feel a thing.

How old was Vivian? It's better to live a short life filled with happiness all the time than to live a long sad miserable one. I know little Viv was well looked after and very much loved by you and I'm sure she loved you so much too Just think of all the happy times you both shared--she's at the RB now and she is playing and having a great time.

    Hang in there,
    Genny

I keep thinking about poor Vivian. I still feel so bad about it. In my house pet deaths are treated with respect. Viv was buried in a wood box with her name on it and she is buried near Angie and the birds. My little cemetery is getting big over the years and every night I blow them each a kiss.

Vivian knew love from you, and tender care. That is SO important for our pets. Keep hold of all the happy memories with her! And she is happy now as well, playing at the Rainbow Bridge. RIP, Vivian.

    Unhappy R.I.P, little Vivian.

I'm so so sorry about Vivian, My Peanuts. And I agree with Genny- she probably died quickly and painlessly. All the same, I'm very sorry about your loss. I'm praying for you, and for little Vivian.

    (((hugs)) hang in there.

P.S ~ I know how awful it feels to have your pet die like that. I used to have two hamsters who died in almost the same way. It's awful.
