    Too Much attention??

One of the things that i think will help cainan(for all of you who know cainans little situation) is ALOT of attention! is giving too much attention bad? i guess my concern is i dont want to give him alot of attention and then have him end up having some sort of anxiety for being alone you know. Also i dont want the others to feel left out, they are pretty good about not not getting upset when i give one attention and not the other...most of the time they just all bombard me at once so they can get a little mom love at the same time. Having two hands is a problem during times like this, since i cant touch them all at the same time! But i just dont want him to end up with seperation anxiety, do you think giving him too much attention could end up being bad in the end? thanks in advance!

I give alot of attention to my dogs all day. They do sleep alot but they always have me with them. I have never found giving attention when we are home to cause seperation anxiety when I am gone. I have found the " how you leave" and the " how you enter" to be the main cause for seperation anxiety. Like leaving rushed, the dog not feeling safe in the room or crate you leave them in, if you come home in a wild reunion, verses quiet, calm and matter a fact like in your approach. Do not give treats when you first come home. Drill leaving- like giving a treat, put the dog in the room or crate, and if in another room shut the door. If the door remains quiet, go back in 5 minutes quietly letting them out with no overtures. And you take time to put your stuff up, casually petting, but not excessive. Then outside ... etc..

I don't think it is, as long as it's not just attention attention and no discipline or excersize. According to Cesar Millan, for a dog to be balance their time needs to be spent with 1/2 excersize, 1/4 affection, and 1/4 discipline. I'm not sure if that's a bunch of crap or not. lol

But IMO I don't think it's bad at all. My dogs a lot of attention!

With sighthounds, its more- 1/2 attention, 1/4 exercise, and 1/4 sleep.. ( and they train their owners... lol..)

well im not saying i dont give them attention at all! I just dont want to end up giving him too much attention and then have him get too upset while im gone or get protective of his attention time and get mad at the other dogs while im trying to pet them all! they get ohh i'd say about the same amount of attention throughout the entire day...cainan maybe like 2% more to help him get over his scared thing! but i just dont want anything bad to come from good you know!
