    worst car

I know I've done this before, but since there are new members I'll try it again. What was the worst car you ever owned? For me it was a 1973 Ford Maverick. It looked good but we had it on the car rack once and found out it was the halves of two cars welded together! I drove it once, shifted my weight in the seat and the back of the seat broke off! Needless to say, we junked it quickly!

OMG, this is hilarious!! My worst car was also a 1973 Maverick!! I went to trade it in and it took me 30 minutes to get it started so I had to leave it running during the entire sales transaction. I was so happy to finally get rid of that "pukey green" car. What a piece of junk!!

I had a 74 Maverick. Got it for $200, it was a great car while it lasted. It was sadly slain one night as I slept - totalled while parked on an awful corner. It was shortened by more than a fott, but the gas tank was fine AND the lights still worked. Dad roped the back bumper on tight, and I drove it that way for a month, before it went home, and eventually to the junkyard.

I have had no "worst" car. Loved 'em all, despite their quirks.

    Davidp,

When I first saw this thread I thought, "OMG! His new car turned out to be a nightmare!!". How silly of me!

Mine was an old Ford Fairlane that my then boyfriend got and fixed up. Not only did it leak CO2 in my car, but the heater was broken. I was SO glad when the car crapped out on me!

A Chevrolet Corvair!! Anyone remember them? My hubby bought it CHEAP when he was in the Air Force. Ralph Nader later wrote a book about them called *Unsafe at Any Speed.*

I never had a car. I am not old enough to drive. But the worst car my family ever had was a Poniac. It broke when we were on the rode at least 10 times and one time it started smoking when we were asleep!

When Bill died, the aforementioned 74 Maverick owned by the Mayor, there was more bondo on the street than has ever been seen outside of a body shop.

My worst car was a 1985 Pontiac Grand Am. 9 alternators, 2 heads, and when I drove it between FT Hood and Massachusetts (twice a year while I was stationed at Hood) I used to carry a spare set of brakes for the car with me and stop to change pads and rotors in Tennesee. (3-6K miles out of a set of pads) I never got more than 6-7k out of an alternator, and always carried a spare with me in the trunk. (GM's brilliance in design at work........let's mount the alternator with the bearing over the exhaust manifold so all the lube heats up and blows out)

Never, Donna! It's beautiful! Believe it or not, I also owned a Ford fairlane. It was a 1968 two door. It wasn't a bad car, but it had electrical problems. I could put my parking lights on, put on my LEFT turn signal, and I could play the radio without the key being in the ignition!!

I really only had one nightmare but it wasn't the cars fault non-mechanic hubby but the fly wheel in backwasrds. It was a 1971 volvo built like a tank. Kids loved it but I could never get it to start with out 10mintues of blue smoke coming from me.

It was my first OWN car: an Opel Kadett. It was an old car, from an old man. I bought it after I wrecked my dad's car . I couldn't afford more then.....

Mine was a light blue piece of junk! At least it started out that way! The longer I had it, you could see the paint peeling. The back end was originally red and the passenger side door was yellow.

I still drive the first car I bought. I learned to drive when I was 23 and got my 1999 ford escort se at that point. It was brand new, with about 4 miles on it. Now, it's sputtering around with nearly 116,000. Hopefully I never really have to go through the whole "worst car" scenario...but, you never know!

Was it my first car, an '82 Olds Forenza, that was supposed to be a 4-cylinder and ran on 3, wouldn't go in reverse, and went into shutters at speeds above 55? The '86 mustang that needed a coat hanger to shift (it was automatic, but to go from drive to reverse to park), with the door that didn't work, and the clutch that would stick when going uphill inthe cold? Or the '88 Corsica, that my dad had to put a new engine in for me? Or the '93 Ford Ranger that needed a new engine a year after I bought it? Not sure! But the best car is the only one I never bought (leased) new...my current 2004 Dodge Dakota Quad cab

I had a Plymouth Horizon for a short while in 1983. I think it was probably a mid 70's model, but I can't remember, to tell you the truth. It was bought used and it was horrible! It died constantly, so finally, my dad asked for some help from the dealership (a relative of ours) and got another car, a Dodge Omni.

That Omni stayed with me for a while. It was a straight drive, easy vehicle.

I traded it in on a 1985 Chevy Blazer.
